Chapter 361 He Agreed?
"Today?" Clara was shocked. "Does Donovan know?"
"Yeah, Mom. I told him last night."
"He agreed?" Clara couldn't believe Donovan would let Chloe go abroad, especially with Francis being so young.
"He always knew I planned to go to grad school," Chloe said.
"Chloe, if you feel uncomfortable with Gordon and me here, we can leave. Don't fight with Donovan. Your dad was persecuted by the Perez family and feels guilty. He wasn't in his right mind then." Clara started crying.
Chloe thought, 'I've always believed Gordon killed Amelia. Now Clara's words confirm it. Everyone knew except me. Though, seeing Clara's concern, I can't be mad.'
"Mom, it's not like that. I'm not acting on impulse. Don't overthink it," Chloe said.
Clara hesitated but she could tell that Chloe and Donovan were getting along well lately.
"Mom, let's go see Francis," Chloe said, pulling Clara along to prevent her from calling Donovan.
"Okay."
They went to Kimberly's room.
Chloe held Francis, who was getting more adorable by the day.
She regretted her initial dislike of Francis.
"Francis, I'm going to study abroad today, but I'll come back every month, okay?" Chloe said for Clara to hear.
Since Gordon returned, he avoided Chloe. He was in his room now.
The more Chloe held Francis, the more reluctant she was to let go. Her eyes welled up with tears.
But she had to hurry; her flight was in three hours.
"Mom, can you come with me to the airport later?" Chloe asked.
"Okay."
Maya came over. "Chloe, why the sudden plan to study abroad? You didn't mention it earlier."
"School starts in January. I discussed it with Donovan yesterday. The child is too young to understand. I'll go and come back quickly," Chloe said with a forced smile.
Maya sighed and went upstairs to pack Chloe's luggage.
Chloe didn't let Susan take her to the airport. She called a cab and went to the airport with very little luggage.
Clara wanted to call Donovan but couldn't find the chance as she was always with Chloe.
Before going through customs, Chloe said to Clara, "Mom, please take good care of Francis."
"I will." Clara felt guilty, thinking Chloe's departure was because of her and Gordon.
"And take care of Donovan," Chloe added, clearly worried about Donovan.
She hadn't told him the truth and thought he might misunderstand.
"I will. Don't worry."
"Thank you, Mom. I'm leaving now." With that, Chloe turned and left.
As she turned, tears streamed down her face, reluctant to leave.
She intended to take the trouble away, figure out the enemy, and deal with it.
She was sure Donovan wouldn't stop her from coming back; he didn't mean what he said last night.
After boarding the plane, Chloe leaned back and closed her eyes.
Her phone buzzed with a WhatsApp notification.
Chloe saw a message from Barbara: [Chloe, don't get too cocky. Since the ring is yours, your enemies will come after you. They targeted the wrong person before, so they'll be harsher on you. Be careful.]
Barbara's message was both a warning and a taunt, with more taunting.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome..." The pre-flight announcement came over the speakers. The cabin doors closed, and the flight attendants began checking seat belts and securing tray tables.
Chloe's guilt for leaving turned into a sense of duty to take the danger away.
With that thought, she felt more at ease.
She closed her eyes and braced herself for the journey ahead.
