Chapter 557 All Are Romantic
Chloe received the message and felt very strange. She thought, 'I've been doing a great job, why am I suddenly being fired?'
Chloe thought about it and figured it must be because of Cynthia; Chloe got implicated.
Just as Chloe was feeling down, she received another call from Nicole Winslow of New East Group.
"Ms. Baker?" a soft voice asked on the other end. After all, it had been three years since they last contacted each other.
"Yes, it's me. Hello, Nicole." Chloe recognized the voice; it was still the same Nicole from before.
"I'm the HR Director at New East Group. Do you still remember me, Ms. Baker? We would like to invite you to work at New East Group as an independent director, specifically responsible for liaising with Stellar Corp. The annual salary is two million dollars." Nicole said.
"Can I think about it?" Chloe didn't reject the offer outright.
"Of course, Ms. Baker. I understand this is quite sudden. Take your time to consider."
Chloe thought, 'It must be Donovan's idea to let Nicole call me. Since Donovan came to Stellar Corp for a meeting today, he probably had a hand in my firing too.'
Chloe messaged Donovan: [Did you help in getting me fired?]
Donovan: [You're overthinking it. The reason I offered you a job is to make you feel better. The salary at New East Group is higher than at Stellar Corp.]
Chloe also felt that her firing probably had nothing to do with Donovan. Donovan offering her a job was purely out of kindness.
Chloe losing her job was most likely due to Cynthia's accidental fall. Cynthia probably didn't expect Donovan to offer Chloe a job at New East Group either.
But Chloe's main job was in Pearl Peak City. She wondered how could she frequently go to Maple Valley for meetings.
After Donovan finished his meeting, he came to have dinner with Chloe in the afternoon. Chloe mentioned the issue of distance.
Donovan didn't seem to care at all. "We'll talk about that later. Where are you staying tonight?"
Chloe was speechless.
Chloe was concerned about daily life, while he was thinking about having sex.
Chloe lowered her head and continued eating. "I'm going back to my place."
"The bed is small, but it'll do."
Chloe looked up in surprise at Donovan. "You're coming to my place?"
"What else?" Donovan retorted.
Chloe didn't say anything, just poked at the food in her bowl with her fork. Since she had already decided to be with Donovan, there was no reason to push him away.
After dinner, they strolled around the school for a while before heading back to Chloe's place at Willow Grove Estates.
Living on campus was different from living in a regular neighborhood where no one knew each other.
On campus, even if Chloe didn't know the students, there were always students who knew her. Today, Chloe and Donovan entered her apartment together, and by tomorrow, there would probably be rumors about Chloe.
As soon as they entered, Donovan pinned Chloe against the door and started kissing her.
After the kiss, Donovan said in a husky voice, "The time apart has rekindled our love."
"So, does that mean being together every day would be boring?" Chloe asked, a bit unwillingly.
"Making love every day is nice too!" Donovan said, then picked Chloe up and carried her to the bed.
Hearing the words of making love, Chloe knew what Donovan was thinking. She wondered if Donovan ever got tired of thinking about this all the time.
By the time they were done, it was already dark.
Chloe's bed was wooden and quite old, creaking all night as if it were about to fall apart.
Chloe was hungry, but she couldn't eat at night, fearing she'd gain weight. Besides, she was too lazy to move from the bed.
Donovan got up and looked at the books on Chloe's shelf, probably looking for something to read at night.
Chloe glanced at Donovan. "Now I understand what it means to be a rogue gentleman. Just having sex and now looking for a book to read."
"Is that contradictory?" Donovan said, still looking at the books. "Many scholars are quite the playboys."
Chloe knew this to be true. "But you're not a scholar."
"So, I shouldn't be a playboy?" Donovan retorted.
That night, they had sex once again.
