Chapter 588: He Just Killed Her
It was already four in the afternoon.
Cynthia voiced, "So, I'm heading back now?"
Cynthia had intentionally dawdled until this time to come to Donovan's house, hoping it would be too late to go back and she could stay at the Blake family's house for the night.
Donovan seemed to just realize the time. He glanced at his watch, "It's past four. By the time you get to Pearl Peak City, it'll be night. It's not safe for a woman alone."
Cynthia was just thinking about how she would politely refuse if Donovan invited her to stay, yet still manage to stay.
"I'll have the driver take you back," Donovan added.
Donovan was already calling the driver.
Cynthia was speechless.
Cynthia bit her teeth tightly.
"It's so late, it's not safe for the driver either," Cynthia said after Donovan finished the call.
"No worries, he'll stay at a hotel."
Cynthia was at a loss for words.
Twenty minutes later, the driver's car arrived.
He called Donovan to say the car was at the door.
Donovan had Cynthia get in the car.
With his hands in his pockets, Donovan just stood at the door politely for a moment. As the car drove away, Donovan showed no reluctance and went back inside.
Donovan went upstairs, thinking: If Chloe dared to be pregnant with someone else's child, he would kill her!
Donovan regretted the lie about getting married and also regretted not marrying Cynthia directly back then. Now he had put himself in such an awkward position, it didn't feel like him at all.
At the next New East Group meeting, Chloe was absent as usual.
She gave Nicole the same excuse: not feeling well.
This time, Donovan didn't stop her, but during the meeting, his eyes kept glancing at her seat.
Donovan casually played with a pencil in his hand, spinning it until it fell to the ground.
Now, he rarely went on business trips to Pearl Peak City, delegating tasks to Charles instead.
Today, he wanted to see Chloe.
So, after work, Donovan drove to Chloe's house.
Donovan wanted to ask whose child it was, having heard she had severe morning sickness.
Chloe cautiously asked from inside, "Who is it?"
"It's me!" Donovan had been holding in a lot of anger lately, and he needed to let it out.
"You should leave," Chloe leaned against the door and said, "You're married, this isn't right."
The more Chloe acted evasive, the more it made Donovan itch with frustration and regret. He almost punched Chloe's door.
But this was Hudson University, just like Pearl Peak University, where everyone knew each other.
A few days later, Jane received a WhatsApp message from Jeffery:
[Dr. Allen, can you visit my mom sometime soon?]
Jane was very surprised and excited to receive this WhatsApp message.
She thought: Why did Jeffery suddenly send her such a message? If Jeffery wanted to know about his mom's condition, he could ask anyone, or even video call his mom directly. Why did he specifically ask her to visit?
Without thinking, Jane called Jeffery on video.
In the video, a man lying on a bed appeared.
Although Jane looked serious on the surface, she was extremely agitated inside.
Jeffery was shirtless, his tanned skin making Jane drool as she felt an urge to leap into his arms. His abs were particularly defined, likely from military training. He had a fantastic physique and radiated the raw energy of youth.
It was clear that Jeffery might have been holding his phone when Jane's video call came through, and he accidentally answered it.
Feeling awkward, he didn't hang up right away, and his expression was a bit stiff.
"Dr. Allen," he greeted.
"What happened?" Fortunately, Jane was wearing a mask, looking quite serious and not giving away her inner "girl with fantasies" nature.
"I got hurt during training."
