Chapter 238 Noticed a Brand
Brayden told Ronald and Betty that Chloe was carrying his child, their grandson.
However, there was much speculation about whose child Chloe was carrying.
Some said it was Donovan's, while others claimed it was Brayden's.
Even if it was Brayden's, Chloe was Donovan's ex-wife after all.
Due to Chloe and Brayden's relationship, Donovan had warned Ronald more than once.
"When you invited Chloe to stay at our house, did Donovan know?" Ronald asked fearfully when Brayden first mentioned it to him.
"He knows. I talked about it to his face. He didn't say anything," Brayden replied.
But Ronald still felt extremely uneasy.
Betty didn't have as many concerns as her husband. Firstly, she believed in fate, and secondly, she didn't understand Ronald's business affairs, didn't know what Ronald had done, and was even less aware of the grudges between Ronald and Donovan. All she knew was that Brayden had brought his pregnant wife home, who was carrying twins. Betty was too happy to have any other thoughts.
So, Betty was quite warm towards Chloe.
Ronald would awkwardly smile at Chloe when he saw her at home and then avoid her.
Betty, on the other hand, was much more welcoming.
Betty was about the same age as Amelia. Chloe, having just lost her mother, inevitably found emotional support in Betty. Hence, their relationship was relatively good.
Brayden had been handling orders from Donovan.
The way Chloe handled the orders left Brayden feeling quite disheartened, but it was Chloe's gesture of goodwill, all for the sake of the First accounting firm.
Chloe didn't work at the company; she worked from home daily. When tired from work, she would take a walk in the front garden.
One day after lunch, Chloe wanted to take a walk to aid digestion. Betty also wanted to go out for a stroll, so they set off together.
Just as they reached the door, a Maybach pulled up at Brayden's villa.
Chloe's face darkened immediately.
It was Donovan's car, but fortunately, Donovan wasn't there; his driver got out of the car instead. He carried a large package towards Chloe. Chloe saw it was a snack gift pack.
"What's this?" Chloe asked warily, unsure of Donovan's intentions.
"Well, Mr. Blake noticed that you love sour snacks, so he made me send you these many sour snacks. Where should I put this?" the driver asked Chloe.
Chloe felt extremely embarrassed. Betty's expression had turned sour, considering how close Chloe and Donovan seemed to be.
"We don't need snacks at home," Betty said, "You better take it back."
"If I take it back, I won't get my salary this month. Where should I put it?" the driver persisted.
"Take it to the housekeeper," Betty said, visibly upset, and got into her car with Chloe.
Chloe thought to herself, 'Donovan is quite adept at ruining relationships. And this is just the first time; there will be more soon.'
Jacob was the driver for the Perez family. Brayden had instructed him to take good care of Chloe's safety in the past.
When Chloe saw Jacob again, things were different. Jacob seemed somewhat ashamed, and in front of Betty, he didn't say much, leaving Chloe unsure of Jacob's current situation.
Sitting in the back seat with Betty, Chloe listened as Betty reminisced about Brayden's childhood.
Chloe kept glancing at Jacob, who was also stealing glances at her through the rearview mirror, making her somewhat distracted.
Winter had arrived in Maple Valley, making it cold and rendering the trees bare. Occasionally, one might see fireworks rising into the sky, but it was hard to see much during the day.
Chloe thought to herself, 'Time flies so fast; in a little over ten days, it will be Christmas again. Last Christmas, Donovan was angry with me over the fireworks. This year, we are already divorced.'
After a stroll, Jacob asked Betty, "Mrs. Perez, why don't you find a warm place to walk and digest with Chloe. I'll wait for you."
"Or shall we go to the mall?" Betty asked Chloe for her opinion.
"Sure, I don't mind," Chloe, with her large belly, replied as Betty supported her.
The two chatted and laughed as they reached the second floor. Chloe glanced and noticed a brand: L&J.
Chloe wondered if this was the brand associated with her and Donovan.
'Has he launched the factory already? And so swiftly to go public?' Chloe ruminated within herself.
"This brand seems to have just opened. Let's go in and take a look," Betty suggested.
Chloe, also curious, followed Betty inside.
The staff warmly welcomed the two guests. It was a men's brand with exceptional fabric choices, comfortable and well-ironed.
Being from an affluent family, Betty had seen many fabrics and considered this brand's materials top-notch.
"The new year is just around the corner. I want to buy Ronald a few shirts that he can wear close to his skin. They gotta be comfy, you know," murmured Betty as she delicately caressed the fabric.
"Of course," Chloe replied, contemplating the origins of the shirts, uncertain still whether they hailed from Donovan's manufacturing domain.
