Chapter 505 He Came at Night
Chloe's old phone is just collecting dust now that she's all about her new one.
After Donovan got back to Kenneth's place, he shot Maya a text: [You better tell Jeffery to steer clear of Barbara.]
Donovan was worried Barbara might mess with Jeffery.
A few minutes later, Maya replied: [Mr. Blake, don't worry.]
That evening, Maya had a voice chat with Jeffery, reminiscing about the old days and how Barbara had wronged Chloe. Jeffery finally got why Donovan had warned him and figured it was best to avoid Barbara since she had a bad rep.
During a video call, Jeffery heard Francis coughing and asked, "Mom, is Francis sick? Mr. Blake isn't around. Didn't you take him to the hospital?"
"It's nothing. He probably just caught a chill this morning. I gave him some medicine, and he'll be fine soon," Maya said.
"Alright, take care," Jeffery replied.
The next day, after accounting class, Chloe kept Jeffery back to talk about Barbara.
"Okay, Chloe, I get it. I'll stay away from her," Jeffery said, a bit annoyed since everyone had been on his case about Barbara. As a young guy, it was normal for him to feel impatient.
"Someone already told you?" Chloe asked while packing her books.
"Yeah, Mr. Blake and my mom both did. By the way, did you know Francis might be sick?" Jeffery said. "I was video chatting with my mom yesterday and heard Francis coughing. It didn't sound normal."
Jeffery didn't mention that Maya had already taken care of it, otherwise, Chloe would go on and on about Barbara again, and he was tired of it. He and Barbara had nothing going on, but the way they talked made it seem like there was something.
"Francis?" Chloe frowned deeply. She almost stumbled, not knowing if Francis's cough was natural or caused by someone. If it was caused by someone, the culprit would naturally be Pamela. She even wondered if Pamela had poisoned Francis's water to make him mute.
Chloe hurried out of the classroom. When she got home, she grabbed her old phone to message Maya. But then she saw that Barbara had sent her a dozen pictures of Donovan and Cynthia together, some even quite intimate.
Chloe tried to ignore it. But with Francis being sick, Donovan and Cynthia being together, and he getting along so well with Jake, Chloe's anger bubbled up, and she needed to vent.
Chloe: [Maya, how's Francis?]
Maya: [Did Jeffery tell you? It's nothing. I gave him some medicine, and he's almost fully recovered. It's just a minor illness. Francis will be fine.]
Even though Maya didn't seem worried, Chloe was still concerned. She sent Donovan a message: [Where are you? When are you coming back to Maple Valley?]
Donovan: [In a few days.]
Chloe: [Francis is sick. You should go see him. I'm worried.]
Donovan: [If you're worried, go yourself.]
Donovan had just met with Derek and was also mad at Chloe.
Chloe looked at the message, thinking about how Donovan was so close with Jake and ignoring Francis. She replied harshly: [I have classes!]
Donovan ignored her. But he showed up that night. Both of them were still angry.
