Chapter 328 Yet, She Married Donovan

"Chloe, I'm not joking with you." Donovan said seriously.

"I'm not joking with you either."

Chloe picked several beautiful pictures—lake, alligator, flowers—and posted them on Facebook. Her caption read: [Spring flowers wither too quickly, time flies, life is short.]

Sofia liked the post and commented: [Chloe, out for a trip? You should go outdoors more now that you're pregnant.]

Charles commented: [The scenery is beautiful, but it's only early spring. Why so melancholic? It makes people feel down. Change the caption.]

Chloe replied: [Not sad, just thought of this phrase when I mentioned spring.]

Charles: [Donovan didn't go to work today, went to the park with you?]

Chloe: [Yes.]

Before long, Chloe's Facebook post received dozens of likes, all from colleagues.

Chloe knew the likes were not for her but for Donovan.

She stopped looking at it.

"What do you want for dinner?" Chloe asked Donovan, "I feel like having porridge, okay?"

"Okay."

Chloe accompanied Donovan to the supermarket to buy oats. Usually, Maya did the grocery shopping and never let her go along, fearing something might happen and she couldn't bear the responsibility.

Donovan wasn't afraid.

Because Chloe was his responsibility.

Since Chloe got pregnant, she realized how good life could be. He took her everywhere, discussing the quality of oats and what kind of oats to buy, and Chloe always had a smile on her face.

Back home, the sound of Donovan chopping vegetables in the kitchen made Chloe feel warm and cozy.

While eating, Chloe sipped her porridge and said softly, "It would be great if you could stay home with me every day."

"What did you say?" Donovan asked while scooping porridge.

"Nothing."

"How about I stay home three days a week with you?" Donovan asked.

"So you heard me, why pretend you didn't?" Chloe muttered.

"Just wanted you to say it again."

Chloe's heart fluttered, and just a touch from him made it ache.

Chloe used to work, too, and they saw each other every day at the same company.

But she had never gone anywhere else with him. After today, she realized how wonderful it was to have just the two of them.

With him by her side, Chloe felt like a girl in love.

"Don't you have to work?" Chloe asked.

"It won't interfere. Someone will report to me."

"That's good," Chloe said, "Which days will you be home?"

"It depends. I'll try to adjust one day each week and let you know."

Chloe's eyes lit up. "Will you take me out to play?"

"I didn't realize you liked to play so much."

"No, when I was a kid, my parents worked, so I didn't go out much. Later, my dad passed away, and my mom was paralyzed, so I had no mood, no time, and no money. Then I started working, got married to you, and still had no time," Chloe said, with a hint of grievance in her tone.

"Andrew never took you out?" Donovan asked, staring at Chloe's downcast eyes.

"Rarely. There was one time we took a bus around Maple Valley from eight in the morning until five in the afternoon. It left a deep impression, didn't cost much, but it was very happy," Chloe said, smiling as if laughing at her past innocence and foolishness.

But the person who took her out was long gone, and her face fell again.

"Just being with him made you happy, right?" he asked.

Chloe didn't respond immediately. "Why bring this up? It's long over."

Chloe had said more than once that if Andrew were still alive, they might have had kids by now, and she would have settled for an ordinary life.

But they weren't so lucky. Andrew died, and she ended up marrying Donovan.
