Chapter 247 Challenge
Chloe was slightly stunned and went out.
Maya made corn chowder, fried fish, pork chops, and vegetable salad today for a sumptuous dinner.
"Delicious! I haven't had such a sumptuous meal in a long time," Chloe said to Maya happily.
"Have you never eaten these at his place?" Donovan asked sarcastically.
Chloe was speechless by his retort, just eating quietly.
A moment later, Chloe spoke up, "I want to go to Green Earth Solutions Company and Elevate Structures Group tomorrow. I have told Susan, and I'm telling you now."
After all, he offered her the car and driver, so she should report her itinerary to him.
"Okay," Donovan replied nonchalantly, "Let Maya go with you."
"Sure," Chloe agreed.
After finishing her meal, Chloe returned to her room to write her diary and then went to sleep.
Just as she lay down, she received a WhatsApp message from Ann.
Ann: [Do you know that Ellie was arrested for industrial espionage?]
Chloe: [Isn't she in logistics?]
Chloe sat up in shock.
Ann: [Yes, that's why I'm puzzled. I don't know how she got involved in industrial espionage. She must have offended someone.]
Chloe lay back down, with a vague thought in her mind that it might be Donovan.
But Ellie hadn't offended Donovan recently.
Whenever something scary and inexplicable happened, Chloe usually thought Donovan was part of it.
After all, he was so powerful that crossing him would be suicidal.
The next morning, when she woke up at nine, Donovan was already gone.
Maya left breakfast for Chloe.
Perhaps because Amelia was suddenly absent, Chloe now found middle-aged women very comforting.
Chloe and Maya's relationship had become exceptionally close.
After breakfast, Susan messaged Chloe, saying she was waiting downstairs.
Maya helped Chloe into the car.
After spending too much time at home, it was nice to go out and get some fresh air to avoid sinking into melancholy.
As a female driver, Susan was meticulous. The routes she chose for Chloe were pleasant. For instance, when going to the Green Earth Solutions Company, she took the riverside route. Seeing the winter sunshine on the river, with the light refracting off the waves, Chloe was in high spirits.
"Feeling good?" Maya inquired when seeing Chloe's expression.
"Yes." Chloe nodded with a smile, looking like a child who had just received candy.
With her good mood, Chloe had a successful meeting with Green Earth Solutions Company. Additionally, since it was a small company, the leadership immediately approved Chloe's project, making her delighted.
After a light lunch with Maya, Chloe went to Elevate Structures Group.
When discussing projects, Chloe usually had Maya wait for her in the lobby downstairs and went up herself.
The financial director of Elevate Structures Group was named Sharon Lewis, and he was probably in his forties. Seeing Chloe so young and pregnant, he frowned.
"Are you Ms. Baker, the partner of First Accounting Firm? So young. How many years have you worked?" Sharon's disdain was evident in his eyes.
Chloe could tell he disapproved of her youth and lack of stability, so he asked about her working years.
"Two years," Chloe replied. Counting her internship experience, she had only been working for two years.
"Two years?" Sharon sneered. "And you're a partner? We are a large company, after all. Allowing a young girl to handle finance... Do you know that finance requires a lot of caution?"
"I do. My previous projects..." Chloe wanted to mention the projects she completed perfectly.
But Sharon didn't give her a chance to finish her words.
"What's your education background?" Sharon waved his hand, cutting off Chloe.
Chloe swallowed nervously. "Undergraduate."
"Undergraduate? Look at you. You're about to have a baby, right? You were in a relationship during your studies, and now you're preparing to bear a child after graduation. How can I trust you with this project? You'd better go back." Sharon then left.
Chloe sat there for a long time, calming down.
Being a partner meant handling business and getting projects, and the latter was exhausting. But if she couldn't overcome this setback, her colleagues would think she lacked capability. Everyone was criticizing her education, saying she rose through the ranks due to her relationship with Brayden.
Compared to her current situation, working at New East Group was the most comfortable time for her.
But she couldn't stay in her comfort zone forever.
