Chapter 367 I Need to Study Hard
Francis Blake from the famous Blake family in Maple Valley was throwing a big party. It blew up on Facebook and even made the entertainment news.
Barbara sent Chloe a video of the party with a message: [Chloe, your son Francis is hosting a party. Why aren't you there?]
Chloe thought, 'Why is Barbara being nice by sending me this video?'
She'd seen similar videos on Facebook and figured this one was the same.
But when she opened it, she was hurt.
"We're divorced. She has no reason to be here," Donovan's words echoed in her mind.
Chloe realized Barbara wasn't being nice; she was trying to hurt her.
Everyone else on Facebook had hidden that comment, but Barbara sent it directly to Chloe.
It seemed Donovan hated her so much that she wasn't welcome at the party or in his life.
Chloe looked at the email she had drafted out and intended to send to Donovan, but hesitated and closed the page after a while.
The sound of her throwing the mouse alerted Wade, and Wade came in to check on her.
"What's wrong, Chloe?" Wade asked, nudging her shoulder.
"Don't ask," Chloe replied.
Wade picked up her phone and looked.
"Is this your ex, Donovan? All men are the same, scared of strong women. If they can't show off, they feel threatened. Since Donovan said that, shouldn't you work harder to surpass him?" Wade said.
"I do need to study hard. But..." Chloe wanted to say it wasn't Donovan's fault; she had her reasons for going abroad.
She wanted to tell Wade about the "man in the black suit" and the ring but feared he'd be in danger if he knew, so she stayed quiet.
"You're still defending him!" Wade said angrily. "Chloe, if you don't study hard, I'll be the first to look down on you."
Chloe said, "Yes, I will. I want to finish my graduate degree quickly and switch from spring to fall enrollment this year. Think that's possible?"
"Give it a shot," Wade said confidently.
Thinking of this, Chloe opened her email and reported to the grad school.
Meanwhile, at Gleam & Glow Auto Spa, Jacob stood at the garage door.
Watching a video on his phone, he said, "Donovan is such a jerk! I need to embarrass him!"
Jacob wasn't a driver for the Perez family anymore; Brayden had invested in a car repair shop for him.
He found Brayden more straightforward and easier to deal with.
Donovan was slippery, like a cunning fox, and Jacob couldn't handle him.
Just because Brayden helped him open a shop, Jacob thought Brayden was a better person.
A girl named Janet Carter came to pick up her car, checking the repair work.
Her car was a regular Toyota.
Hearing Jacob, she gently asked, "Can you touch up the paint here on my car?"
"Touch up the paint for her," Jacob told an employee.
"Got it," the employee said, coming out with some tools.
While waiting, Janet walked over to Jacob. "What are you watching?"
She leaned over and saw he was watching a video of the Blake family's party.
"Why do you care about this? That is the life of the super-rich, our worlds are far apart," she said.
Jacob glanced at Janet and snorted. "That kid is my sister Chloe's son. I'm related to Donovan. Francis is hosting a party and didn't invite me! I have to embarrass him!"
Janet smiled faintly.
"What? You don't believe me?" Jacob was annoyed by her indifferent attitude.
