Chapter 419 You Go Yourself

Even though Chloe had changed her phone and number, she still recognized Donovan's number. She got up and started pacing, feeling uneasy. She had been at home in Willow Grove Estates, working on a speech. The school year had just started, and the freshman welcome ceremony was coming up. She was supposed to speak as the young teachers' representative.

For the past three years, she hadn't had any trouble from Pamela in Emerald Isle. It was like they vanished. Francis seemed to be doing well too. But now, Donovan was calling her out of the blue.

Chloe finally answered the call.

"Hello, Aunt Chloe. Why did you take so long to answer?" a cute voice said.

When she heard it was Francis, Chloe's heart softened. "I was writing something."

"Aunt Chloe, do you want to be the richest person?" Francis asked.

"The richest person?" Chloe was puzzled.

"Yeah, my dad says knowledgeable people are the richest."

Thinking about Donovan, Chloe couldn't help but smile wryly. "I'd love to be the 'richest person,' but I still have a long way to go. I need to study hard, and Francis needs to study hard too."

"Okay, I got it. Aunt Chloe, you're so modest. My dad wants to marry you. Would you be willing? He's very rich and can buy you anything you want. You won't lose out by marrying him."

Chloe laughed. "Do you always find wives for your dad like this?"

"Of course not! My dad was smitten with you after meeting you yesterday. Do you want to go on a date with him in my grandpa's community garden at 7 PM tomorrow?"

Chloe knew Donovan wouldn't act smitten. Francis was probably exaggerating, and Donovan likely didn't know about this call. "That depends on whether I have time. If I do, I'll go. If not, I'll call you, okay?"

"Okay, don't forget. Bye, Aunt Chloe." Francis hung up.

Chloe sat at her desk, smiling.

She hadn't expected Francis to turn out to be such a cheerful, lively, and mischievous child. She felt a mix of pride and bittersweet nostalgia.

She knew Donovan had given up on her. Otherwise, even if she were at the North Pole, he would have found her within three years. She was curious about where Janet's child was and why Donovan didn't bring the kid along.

Yesterday, Donovan had let the child call her "Aunt Chloe," and his calm, detached gaze made it clear he saw her as someone selfish and willing to sacrifice everything for her own growth. He didn't see the pain and scars she carried.

Chloe was even more certain now that Donovan was unaware of this call.

She decided not to go.

Not long after Francis finished the call, Donovan came out of the bathroom in pajamas.

"Dad, I just called Aunt Chloe and asked her to go on a date with you," Francis said.

Donovan took the phone and saw Francis had dialed an unfamiliar number.

"Look, Francis feels very close to his Aunt Chloe," Charles said, trying to persuade Donovan. "Why don't you go see her?"

Donovan sat on the couch. "If you want to go, you go. I'm not going!"

Charles was speechless.
