Chapter 593: She Really Doesn't Trust Others
Chloe now felt no attachment to Donovan at all.
Donovan thought that because he once made a mistake with irreversible consequences, Chloe's love for him had faded, and her disappointment was something he could never undo.
Someone once said, "Never offend a woman; when she decides to get ruthless, there's no way a man can handle it."
Unfortunately, Donovan had already offended her.
Donovan didn't linger and left, deciding to take a long-term view of the situation.
Chloe watched his shadow walk in the sunlight, his steps strong, one hand in his pocket, as he got into the car and drove away.
Why did Chloe suddenly feel like she had been entangled with Donovan for half her life?
She took a cab with Paula to Andrew's house.
They hadn't been in touch for years, and she didn't know if they had moved.
Hearing the doorbell, Zoe appeared in the doorway.
She stared at Chloe for a long time, surprised, "Chloe?"
Then Zoey quickly opened the door, as if she thought she was mistaken, and carefully examined Chloe.
"Is it really you, Chloe?" Zoey was on the verge of tears.
After all, Chloe used to be Zoey's son Andrew's girlfriend, and seeing Chloe inevitably brought back memories of Andrew.
Andrew's past, with Chloe's arrival, brought both sadness and joy to Zoey's heart.
"Yes, Zoey, it's me." Chloe helped Paula sit down.
Zoey hurried to pour some water, "Who is this next to you?"
"This is my mom." Chloe replied.
"Amelia woke up?" Zoey said in surprise. Over the years, she hadn't known about the changes in Chloe's life.
After all, Donovan's family was in high society, while she was just a commoner, separated by several social layers.
Zoey had once visited Amelia in the hospital, but at that time, Amelia was wearing a mask, and it was hard to see her clearly. And after all those years, she could barely remember Amelia's face anymore.
"It's a complicated story," Chloe said.
When Zoey came back with the water, Chloe said, "Zoey, my mom's mental health wasn't in a good place. I was teaching at Pearl Peak University and couldn't take care of her by myself. If you had any free time, could you help out with her? I didn't mean to treat you like a nanny; I just didn't trust anyone else."
Unexpectedly, Zoey agreed readily, "Sure. I'm retired now, and I have nothing to do at home all day. I'm just sighing and feeling restless."
"Can you start tomorrow? You can come at nine in the morning and leave at five in the afternoon, a nine-to-five schedule. Is that okay?" Chloe asked very politely.
Zoey thought for a moment, "Can I come around three in the afternoon tomorrow? Peter isn't off work yet; he'll be back tomorrow. I'll explain things to him when he gets back."
Chloe thought about it. She had classes all day tomorrow, but she could find someone to cover for her temporarily, so she said, "That's fine."
After that, Chloe took her mom back to their home at Pearl Peak University.
On the way back, she gently brushed Paula's hair, "Mom, Chloe has to go to work tomorrow. You have to listen to Zoey, okay?"
Paula nodded obediently.
"Good job, Mom." Chloe gave Paula a thumbs-up.
The next day, when Chloe got up early, Paula was still asleep.
Chloe had to go to work and wanted to find someone to look after her mom temporarily.
After thinking it over, Donovan seemed the most suitable.
She really didn't trust anyone else.
It was now 9:50, and Chloe had a class at 10:30. She called Donovan.
Donovan was in a meeting.
Donovan was sitting in the chairman's seat listening to a report when he saw Chloe's call. He raised his hand to interrupt the speaker and then stepped out to take the call.
