Chapter 288 Where Did Mr. Blake Go?
Moreover, just now, Donovan told Charles, "Chloe is already six months along."
This shows that Donovan was also concerned about Chloe and didn't want her to work at such an advanced stage of pregnancy.
Chloe remembered receiving a WhatsApp message from Ann a few days ago. Ann mentioned that the South Central accounting firm was facing challenges due to its affiliation with the First accounting firm, resulting in slow business. Despite being renamed Summit Financial Solutions by Virgil, the company hadn't landed any contracts and was unable to pay salaries.
Ann messaged Chloe on WhatsApp: [Chloe, do you think Carol is making a big mistake? If you were there, at least she would have some guidance. She doesn't seem to grasp the situation and even upset you.]
The person Carol really upset was Donovan. It was Donovan who took action to teach Carol a lesson on Chloe's behalf. Reflecting on it, Chloe couldn't help but feel a little sympathetic.
Donovan's phone rang.
"This evening? Where?"
"The Midnight Mirage? Alright."
Donovan said before hanging up the phone.
Hearing "The Midnight Mirage," Chloe frowned slightly and turned her head towards the window.
The thunder was loud, and rain was imminent. Donovan had already seen her expression in the rearview mirror.
"I'm going to The Midnight Mirage tonight. I'll take you home first," Donovan said.
"Whatever," Chloe replied, then leaned back and closed her eyes to rest.
Feeling less significant after Donovan's comment, "You're not that important," Chloe didn't feel the need to say anything else.
Donovan stayed in the car and, as it was about to rain, he drove straight to the underground garage. He had Maya accompany Chloe upstairs before he departed.
Maya had already prepared a meal, setting a table full of dishes.
"Where did Mr. Blake go?" Maya asked Chloe.
"He went to the Midnight Mirage," Chloe replied casually while eating.
"A nightclub?" Maya frowned slightly. "What's he doing at a nightclub?"
"I don't know."
Maya, being a virtuous woman, didn't see nightclubs as suitable places to be.
"Why didn't you stop him?"
"I didn't think to," Chloe replied.
Chloe seemed a bit distracted while eating.
"What's wrong?" Maya thought Chloe might not be feeling well, especially since she was pregnant and required constant care.
"Nothing."
"Do you want me to ask him where he went?"
Chloe looked up, feeling a bit flustered. "Maya, I didn't mean that, absolutely not."
"It's okay if you did. After all, you're carrying his child," Maya said, understanding the thoughts of young people.
The Midnight Mirage, private room.
Matthew was seated at the head of the table, surrounded by a group of influential figures from Maple Valley. They were all business professionals, providing a great chance to network and share ideas.
Dylan was also present, although his business standing wouldn't typically allow him entry into such a venue; his presence was at Donovan's request.
So, Matthew invited him.
Donovan sat next to Matthew and patted him on the shoulder. "Sorry, I'm late."
Then, Donovan scanned the room and saw a scantily clad woman in the center.
"Everyone, look at this woman. She is my ex-wife, Melissa Clark. She's done some really shady stuff. She cheated on me with a fitness trainer, and I caught them in bed. She ran off with him, thinking she was rich when she's actually broke. She's been with at least eight or ten different guys. The man she ran off with found another rich woman and left her. Now, she's teaming up with a guy from Maple Valley to try and scam me. She's more toxic than a snake. Today, I'm exposing her for who she really is. Don't trust this woman. If I find out any of you are involved with her, you're my enemy. If anyone sees her with someone, let me know. I'll make sure she can't stick around in Maple Valley. Whether she ends up begging or turning to prostitution, it's all on her.”
Everyone present either chuckled quietly or shook their heads.
