Chapter 412 You Mean Her?
"I know. Go ahead." Donovan, as usual, signed the document. "Also, write me a report on yesterday's meeting."
"Report? I finished it ages ago. I'll send it over soon." Charles waved dismissively, like reports were no big deal.
"She's now an independent director at Stellar Corp," Charles continued.
"She has a PhD. Not surprising."
"Donovan, do you not care about her at all?" Charles was shocked, almost annoyed.
"She's in the past. Why should I care?"
Donovan seemed calm, but he remembered how Cynthia had pursued him relentlessly, almost risking her life. She had put in so much effort, as if she couldn't live without him.
He still remembered Cynthia's tears at Willowbrook College when he refused to date her.
"Donovan, I'll make you come back to me one day!" Cynthia had said.
But after that, Cynthia vanished. If it weren't for the last class reunion, Donovan would have forgotten her.
"But she's still Francis's mom!" Charles said.
Donovan's writing hand paused. He clasped his hands together, forming a hollow shape.
After a moment, he looked up at Charles. "You mean her?"
"Yeah, who else?"
Donovan was silent for a moment, then continued signing.
He thought, 'Her success is not surprising. She is ruthless, abandoning me and Francis for a position.
'I just didn't expect her to become an independent director at Stellar Corp.
'What a small world.'
"Donovan, I mentioned in the meeting that you might attend the next one in person; it's unlikely she won't be there as a member of the company," Charles said.
"Mind your own business! You go yourself."
"Donovan, are you still holding a grudge against her? If you really hated her, you wouldn't have stayed single all these years. Janet has tried to run into you so many times, and you weren't interested. Let alone Paisley."
"Get out!" Donovan ordered.
Charles couldn't say another word.
After Charles left, Donovan couldn't focus on his work at all.
And so the weekend arrived.
Chloe went to the library to look up materials for her thesis.
While flipping through books, she came across a work on auditing by Kenneth. Chloe picked it up.
Kenneth was Donovan's grandfather.
As Chloe picked up the book, memories of Kenneth surfaced. Kenneth, with his refined and genteel demeanor, had been incredibly supportive when she was studying for her CPA exams. Her eyes misted over at the thought.
She opened the front page, which had the author's photo and biography.
Kenneth Blake, a graduate of Summit University, was a renowned expert in civil and commercial law, especially trust law and maritime economic law.
The book mentioned Kenneth's birthdate but left out the date of his passing.
In fact, Kenneth had been gone for several years now.
Seeing Kenneth's bio made Chloe reminisce about his voice and smile. If he were still here, they would have so much to talk about.
Chloe missed Kenneth very much.
With this in mind, Chloe decided to borrow all the books Kenneth had written.
