Chapter 693 Not Revealing His Relationship
Jane was feeling down, silent for a long time, not saying a word.
"How about we go to a 24-hour store and chat?" Jane asked Chloe, then turned to Donovan in the driver's seat, "Mr. Blake, can I borrow Chloe for a bit?"
Donovan knew they wanted to talk about Jeffery. The Hillside villa was big, but with Maya there, the more they avoided her, the more suspicious she would get. So he said, "Sure. I'll take you to a club that offers 24-hour service. It's very quiet."
"Thank you, Mr. Blake," Jane said.
Chloe understood what Donovan meant. He simply didn't trust Chloe. Going out in the middle of the night, he would definitely be worried. What if they encountered bad people, especially bad men?
After making a call, Donovan took the two ladies to a top-notch club. As expected, a female attendant arranged a room for them. It was warm and cozy, with a large sofa that could serve as a bed, and it even had a blanket on it. Chloe, feeling a bit sleepy, lazily lay on the sofa, covering her feet with the blanket, and thoughtfully grabbed an apple to eat.
"I regret it so much. It's all my fault," Jane said, very upset. "I'll call my rich classmate who owns a company at dawn. You tell Jeffery it's your connection, don't mention me. I'm afraid if he knows it's through me, he won't accept it."
Chloe had never seen Jane so remorseful and humble. "But he's with Barbara now."
"Getting Jeffery a job is my duty as a person, not as a girlfriend. It's my fault he ended up like this," Jane said, lowering her head. "Of course, I don't want Jeffery to be with Barbara. As someone who likes Jeffery, I don't want him with any woman. But I want him to be well, not to keep sinking like this."
Chloe nodded, "I need to see Betty and have her talk to Barbara. I bet Betty doesn't want her with Jeffery either. Jeffery is in a bad place right now; he might have been desperate last night."
After that, the two fell silent, and Chloe dozed off.
In her dream, Chloe seemed to go back to when she first met Jeffery. He was a cheerful, sunny guy. His current state had a lot to do with Chloe.
She was awakened by Jane's phone conversation. Jane was talking to her rich classmate about the positions available at his company, insisting he save the most respectable and highest-paying job for Jeffery. Surprisingly, he agreed.
Jane happily told Chloe, "Sean Gray agreed to give Jeffery a senior investment manager position, with a monthly salary of $20,000. But he has to go for an interview. Sean set the time for 2 PM the day after tomorrow. You tell Jeffery, but don't mention it's through me."
"Got it," Chloe said. "Does Sean know not to reveal your connection?"
"Yes, I've reminded him many times."
"Alright, I'll get Jeffery to go. It's Wednesday, and I don't have any classes. I want to visit Daniel's house and have Betty talk to Barbara." Chloe thought it over. Talking nicely to Barbara and Betty wouldn't work; she needed to be firm.
After Jane returned to the hospital, Chloe took a cab to Daniel's house.
The whole way, Chloe was thinking about how to phrase her words.
