Chapter 420 Chloe
Francis's call left Chloe deep in thought. After revising her speech, she reviewed her lesson plans. Tomorrow was going to be busy since all her classes were scheduled for Wednesday. By the time she went to bed, it was past eleven.
The next day, Chloe headed to Willow Grove Estates to teach. On the way, she noticed students glancing at her, which puzzled her. She wondered if her outfit or makeup was off.
She bumped into Cynthia, who was also heading to class. "Cynthia, are you going to class?" Chloe asked.
Cynthia smirked. "Yes, beauty."
"What?" Chloe was even more confused.
"Why don't you go see for yourself?" Cynthia said and walked away.
Feeling baffled, Chloe hurried to her classroom in Building One. "We're starting class now," she announced, but the students seemed to be holding back laughter, as if waiting for something.
She noticed Jeffery sitting provocatively in the third row, the only one in that row. If time could rewind seven or eight years, Chloe would have never given Andrew a second glance in college. After all, he was no comparison to Jeffery.
"Is it... my teaching that's not up to par?" Chloe, still new to teaching, felt a pang of anxiety. She thought, 'My students have all gravitated to the back of the classroom. And with my current performance, I'm supposed to represent the young teachers in a speech?'
Jeffery crossed his legs and glanced around. "Don't worry, you're doing fine. Just keep going."
The students started laughing quietly. Chloe frowned. Jeffery's words didn't sound like something a student would say. Feeling awkward, she just said, "Let's start the class."
After class, Chloe finally understood the students' strange behavior. While packing up, her graduate student Isabel waved her phone in front of her.
"What?" Chloe asked, puzzled. The phone screen showed a painting.
"This painting is called 'Chloe.' We saw it posted in the display case by the cafeteria this morning," Isabel whispered. "Jeffery has never liked anyone before!"
Chloe was confused but decided to check the display case.
The nearest display case to the teaching building was downstairs, so Chloe hurried over.
Inside the display case was a painting of a woman striding through a campus. The woman's dress was blowing behind her in the wind, and her braid was falling over her chest. Despite her carefree appearance, the woman seemed lost in thought.
She finally understood why Cynthia had acted like she was watching a romantic drama.
But it was clear that there was nothing romantic about it.
Chloe had no idea who had painted it. The angle suggested it was from a higher vantage point. The painting was depicting her from the previous night.
Chloe had always thought that students showing affection for their teachers was just a prank and didn't take it seriously. She had no idea how Jeffery managed to get the painting in the display case, nor could she remove it. But it was a beautiful piece of art, so she decided to let it stay there.
