Chapter 327 I Can't Even Control You?
"Many people, even teenagers, go to Verdania alone and nothing happens. I'm in my twenties, so what's the big deal about me going to Verdania? Besides, I won't be alone when I'm there," Chloe said, squinting her eyes.
"Who else?" Donovan asked her.
He knew Chloe was referring to Brayden.
Donovan was still bitter about the time Chloe and Brayden spent in Verdania.
"A lot of friends," Chloe blinked. "I get along well with people wherever I go."
"Are you still planning to go?" he asked her.
Chloe thought, 'I had already told him about my trip to Verdania in January, so why was he asking again?'
"It depends," Chloe replied nonchalantly.
"Would you go even if you had kids?"
"There will be plenty of time to spend with kids, but the opportunity to study only comes around for a few years," Chloe said. She didn't have kids yet and felt that her career was the most important thing. What she was concerned about was her education. To establish herself in Maple Valley, she needed foundamental skills and knowledge.
She hadn't yet experienced the deep bond between a mother and her child.
"I can't even control you?" Donovan asked her.
"Right, some dreams can't be controlled by anyone," Chloe said meaningfully.
"If you take good care of me, you won't have to worry about anything," Donovan said noncommittally.
Chloe scoffed. "Being an auditor has been my dream since I was a kid. If I rely on connections, people will look down on me. I want to be someone capable."
Chloe's words revealed her admiration for professional auditors.
"So, even if you have kids, you'll still go to Verdania?" he asked her again.
"Yes."
As they left the zoo, Chloe felt a bit tired. It was spring, and the weather was hot, with beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
Chloe tugged at Donovan and said, "Let's sit by the roadside for a bit."
After saying that, she sat down on a bench, panting. When Donovan joined her, her head instinctively leaned on his shoulder because she was so tired.
"Once the baby is born, I'll reward you with a villa and fifty million dollars," Donovan said.
Chloe didn't react much but just gave a simple "Oh."
What she needed now wasn't money but the sense of accomplishment that came from knowledge.
"Then I'll always be someone looked down upon, despised by others in my industry. Things like what happened with Carol will keep happening, and in the future, even my husband might look down on me! I don't want my life to turn out that way," Chloe said rationally.
Donovan sneered. "So, when you first found out you were pregnant, you were planning to have an abortion."
"Let's go home, I'm tired," Chloe said after a moment of silence.
Jane brought up this matter last time, and Chloe had no way to refute it.
Donovan stood up, took her hand, and they headed home.
On the way, Chloe received a WhatsApp message from Betty: [Chloe, Barbara has been having a hard time finding a role in a new production. She finally got a small part, and there was a scene where the owner threw a bucket of water in her face. Barbara was supposed to stand there and take it, but for some reason, she instinctively dodged. Luckily she did, because the water sizzled on the ground. The crew was shocked; it seemed like the water had acid in it. Barbara was terrified. I know Paisley used to be close with Mr. Blake. Can you talk to Mr. Blake and ask him to stop targeting Barbara? We apologize for what happened before.]
Seeing this WhatsApp message, Chloe was also startled. Using acid to disfigure someone was truly vicious.
Donovan had once said that the previous incident wasn't Paisley's doing.
"Barbara was almost splashed with acid on set," Chloe said, "My aunt asked me to tell you to ask Paisley to stop doing such things. Barbara is really sorry for reporting her."
Donovan frowned slightly while driving. "Who did your cousin offend?"
"My aunt said it was Paisley."
"Paisley has already left town. Changing props in a production isn't easy. Do you think Paisley has that kind of power?" Donovan retorted.
"If she doesn't have that power, you certainly have the power to clear her name!" Chloe said, turning her head towards the window, ignoring Donovan.
Even though she knew Donovan made sense, she was still annoyed that he kept defending Paisley.
She then focused on her Facebook.
