Chapter 611 Back Home
One day after work, Chloe received a message from Derek: [After work, come to the presidential suite at Whispering Pines Inn.]
Chloe was very surprised. What did Derek mean by this?
There was indeed a Whispering Pines Inn near her school, but why would Derek be there?
This wasn't like Derek at all.
"Where are you now? Maple Valley?" Chloe asked.
"Yes, right across from your school. Come on, let's talk."
Chloe thought: Could Derek be in some kind of trouble?
She hadn't gotten her driver's license yet and still took the bus home every day.
Chloe went to Derek's hotel and to his room.
As soon as she entered, a strong smell of cigarette smoke hit her, making her cough.
"Why are you smoking? I don't want you to die young!" Chloe said.
She saw Derek slumped on the couch, surrounded by smoke, looking troubled.
Chloe sat down across from him.
Derek looked up at Chloe.
Derek's room was a mess, unlike anything Chloe had ever seen. The food delivered by the hotel was still on the table, and the floor was littered with tissues, blankets, and couch cushions. It was as messy as it could get.
Chloe had never seen Derek like this.
"What happened?" Chloe sat down, feeling that Derek must be in some serious trouble.
Derek didn't speak. He lowered his head and started sending articles from his phone to Chloe, one page at a time.
"What?" Chloe asked as she looked down, her face growing paler and her hands trembling.
"Where did this come from? Where did this come from?" Chloe's voice trembled.
Derek was actually the child of Pamela and Fred. This couldn't be true. It was absolutely impossible.
This meant that she and Derek were indeed half-siblings.
Chloe was stunned.
"Someone sent it to me. The phone number is from Maple Valley. I guess it's probably Donovan. No one else has the motive to investigate me, let alone the resources to dig this deep," Derek said, squinting.
Chloe clenched her fists. This investigation revealed that Derek was her biological brother. What if it had revealed something else?
Because they were siblings, Donovan was very open and comfortable with their interactions.
Chloe was speechless.
"What are you going to do?" Chloe asked Derek.
Derek stubbed out his cigarette and leaned back into the couch, looking defeated.
"I don't know. I haven't told Neil that I know about this. He doesn't know who my biological parents are either. Thinking that my biological mother is someone as twisted as Pamela makes me feel awful," Derek said, closing his eyes.
Then he gave a bitter smile, and tears started to fall from the corners of his eyes.
The person he had always liked turned out to be his half-sister.
They both sat on the couch, stunned for a long time.
Around eight o'clock, Chloe snapped out of it. "I should go home. What are you going to do?"
"Me?" Derek gave a bitter smile. "I came to Maple Valley just to tell you this. I might leave tomorrow."
Chloe mechanically responded and left.
As she walked down the hotel steps, she almost stumbled. Her mind was in chaos, but she couldn't pinpoint why.
She hailed a cab and went home.
