Chapter 237 Not Like Her
Donovan arrived at the hospital.
When he entered Chloe's room, Chloe was still sleeping.
Being in the later months of pregnancy, she could only sleep on her side, hands supporting her belly.
Chloe was crying, tears staining the pillow, forming the words "mom" on her lips.
She must be missing Amelia again.
Donovan wiped away the tears on her face.
With just a light touch from Donovan, Chloe woke up.
She seemed to shy away from him as if avoiding a plague.
"Why are you here? Did you give the materials to Ann?" Chloe asked Donovan, frowning tightly.
"I did. Do you only care about the project?" Donovan said as he casually pulled up a chair.
"In this world, the people I care about are all gone," Chloe said desolately.
Implicitly, Donovan was not among those she cared about.
Whether he lived or died, she didn't care.
Due to her pregnancy, Chloe had been lying on her side. However, Donovan had come to see her on purpose. If she turned her back on him, it would be too impolite. So, she could only face Donovan, but she gently closed her eyes, refusing to engage in conversation with him.
"Chloe, Chloe, how are you?" An anxious voice came from the door.
Chloe opened her eyes and saw Brayden standing by her bed.
"Are you okay?" Brayden instinctively took one of Chloe's hands anxiously. "You've been through such a big thing. Why didn't you tell me?"
He had gone on a business trip out of town yesterday and headed straight to the hospital as soon as he got off the plane.
Brayden looked very worried.
"I'm fine," Chloe said with a smile.
"If something happens to you, what will the children and I do? You shouldn't work anymore. I will take care of you," Brayden expressed with deep chagrin.
"No need for you to take care of me. The project I got is enough to keep our firm busy for a year. I'll be careful in the future," Chloe said with a smile.
She completely ignored Donovan's expression.
Donovan stood by, silent.
His face was grim.
Donovan learned a few things from Chloe and Brayden's conversation. First, the children were indeed Brayden's, and second, Chloe worked so hard to get the project from him for Brayden.
Moreover, she had used the term "our," which sounded harsh to Donovan.
"Don't live alone in a rented place anymore. Come and live at my house. My dad and the house staff will take care of you. You're so far along in your pregnancy, and I really can't rest easy knowing you're living alone," Brayden said.
In the past, Chloe would have definitely refused.
But after what happened with Ellie, Chloe felt she couldn't be alone.
If Ellie failed this time, she would definitely try other ways until she managed to cause a miscarriage.
Living alone was indeed unsafe.
And being pregnant with twins made it even more dangerous than usual, requiring extra care.
After thinking for a moment, Chloe replied, "Okay."
She did it on purpose in front of Donovan.
"I have two sets of houses for you to live in," Donovan said, somewhat annoyed.
"I don't want your twenty million dollars and two houses. I haven't touched the money, and I haven't even seen the houses. I don't know where they are," Chloe said, looking at Donovan. Her tone was cold, in stark contrast to her attitude towards Brayden.
Donovan turned and left, heading home.
Since Kenneth left and then Chloe left, the house had become desolate.
When Kenneth was in Pearl Peak City, the house had always been this way, with Donovan living alone.
The bustling energy in the household faded away, resuming its quietude and leaving himwith a profound sense of emptiness.
He called out, "Chloe." The black cat jumped onto his lap.
This "Chloe" was so well-behaved.
Not like her.
After a few days, Chloe's condition improved.Brayden helped her move out ofher rented house to Brayden's house.
Brayden's house was also a villa. It was not as large as the hillside villa, but it was cozy and could accommodate more people.
There were three maids and Brayden's parents.
Brayden arranged a room for Chloe on the ground floor, the largest and sunniest one in the house.
On Chloe's first day at home, the maids made her a delicious cream of mushroom soup. Compared to the loneliness of living alone, it was indeed much warmer.
Chloe's arrival stirred the most profound apprehensions in Brayden's father, Ronald.
