Chapter 268 You Know How Much Mr. Blake Cares for You
On the 7th in the afternoon, Brayden arrived.
Maya went out to buy groceries.
As the supermarket was just around the corner, Maya would quickly return, leaving Chloe alone at home for a while.
Brayden brought a large bouquet of roses.
Both South Central and First Accounting Firms started work on the 8th. Brayden was worried that Chloe might not be happy, so he came to visit.
"Where is he?" Brayden looked around but didn't see Donovan.
"He went back to Hillside Villa," Chloe said.
He asked, "Will he not come back anymore?"
"No," Chloe replied.
Brayden glanced at Chloe's belly. "Have you told him about the children?"
"Not yet," Chloe said, without mentioning her moments of doubt.
"Chloe, Ann mentioned that you declined her invitation. I know you are upset because I didn't consult with you before. Virgil's acquisition was forceful, and I couldn't resist. I wanted to protect you and ensure your lifelong safety, but I failed." Brayden expressed his remorse.
"It's okay, I don't mind anymore," Chloe said cheerfully.
"Chloe, would you give me a chance?" Brayden said, then knelt down. "I know that after finding out about the children, you considered abortion, which means you didn't want to give birth. You only kept the children because they are twins I don't mind being the father of the children. I will treat them as my own. Give me a chance, will you marry me? If you marry me, you can go study abroad if you want to; if you don't want to take care of the children, I won't let you; if you don't want to live with my parents, we can move out, okay?"
Chloe thought Brayden had come to console her emotions, not expect him to propose.
"I..." Chloe didn't know how to respond without hurting Brayden.
The sound of keys opening the door indicated Maya's return.
Seeing Brayden kneeling with flowers, Maya was initially puzzled. But then she realized he was proposing.
Thinking of Donovan, who had just moved out, Maya wondered why Brayden chose to propose at this moment.
"Chloe, Brayden is kneeling for you. Why don't you help him up?" Maya teasingly remarked.
This remark inadvertently helped Chloe out of the situation.
"I was just about to help him up. It's good you're back. Can you assist me?" Chloe smiled.
"Sure!" Maya put away the groceries in the kitchen.
Brayden's proposal mood turned into disappointment and extreme awkwardness.
After Brayden left, the room returned to silence.
Maya, coming out of the kitchen with groceries, commented, "He proposed! He really knows how to pick his timing. After Mr. Blake leaves, he shows up right away. When Mr. Blake is around, he doesn't dare. And remember, no matter what a man says before marriage, it's post-marriage actions that matter."
Chloe chuckled, "How has Mr. Blake been post-marriage then?"
"Without saying much, Mr. Blake treats you so well, you know?" Maya, seemingly anxious and irritated seeing Chloe being proposed to, continued, "He has done so much; he just doesn't speak about it. You have no idea."
"He's good to me? Oh, he's so good that he doesn't bother to come home at night, so good that he's got my belly in knots, frightening the life inside me." Chloe was also somewhat angry.
"But even if he doesn't come home at night, it's not because he's out having fun. During that time, Grandpa Blake was critically ill so that he couldn't go out. Today, with just the two of us here, I'll speak frankly with you. Though you haven't revealed the true parentage of the children, I believe they belong to Mr. Blake. I don't know why he thinks otherwise, but regardless of the children's biological father, he still treats you well. Watching your belly grow every day, he might feel a bit unsettled at times. I have never seen anyone treat their ex-wife so kindly before." Maya's words left Chloe speechless.
She had her moments of doubt numerous times.
A year had passed, and the pain of Amelia's death had gradually faded, but Donovan had always been by her side.
Chloe retreated to her room.
Tears welled up in her eyes. Donovan had left not long ago, yet someone was speaking so highly of him, stirring up complex emotions in Chloe, making it hard for her to let go.
Maya quickly sent a message to Donovan: [Brayden just proposed to Chloe. Luckily, I came back and interrupted him.]
After a while, Donovan replied: [Noted.]
