Chapter 271 Unattainable
Sofia didn't finish her sentence and collapsed onto the table, sobbing uncontrollably.
Chloe was in a daze and didn't comfort Sofia, feeling a deep sense of guilt.
Sofia cried for a long time, pounding the table as she spoke, "'The WhatsApp number and phone number of 'Sweetheart' are both yours. Actually, the first time he went to the dormitory, I could tell from the way he looked at you. When you went abroad, he was reluctant to let you go; he knew you got married and pregnant, so he silently loved you. He used me as an excuse; every time he saw me, it was to see you. Going back to Sunshine Bay City with you, and with you...”
Chloe kept her head down, fiddling with the spoon in her hand.
Perhaps Logan gave her the nickname "Sweetheart" because they first met at Love Heart Elementary School, where Chloe had helped him refuel his car. They exchanged WhatsApp numbers then, so he called her "Sweethear."
At that time, he didn't know Chloe was already married.
"Well, you should know it's impossible for us," Chloe said apologetically.
"But no matter what, his affection is given to you and can't be given to anyone else. Maybe in the future, he will fall for someone else, but that person won't be me. I've always been a substitute," Sofia said. "Please stay."
"With what you just said, I can't stay even more," Chloe said, staring blankly at the food in front of her.
This was one of the few moments in her life when she found the food tasteless.
After that, Chloe and Sofia remained silent.
The two of them were quiet for a long time.
Earlier, Paisley had heard the crying from outside the private room and said to Donovan, "Crazy, crying and laughing like that."
"They're in a bad mood," Donovan's tone carried a hint of reproach towards Paisley.
"Have you been listening to their conversation?" Paisley asked Donovan, alert.
"No. It's just that there are many unsatisfactory things in this world, each worth crying over," Donovan said, as if not speaking to Paisley.
Moreover, with Paisley's limited understanding, she couldn't fully grasp his meaning.
Chloe called Susan, saying they had finished lunch, and asked her and Maya to pick her up.
"Shall I take you back to the dorm first?" Chloe patted Sofia's face.
Sofia had already passed out drunk.
Susan and Maya helped get Sofia into the car, with Maya sitting in the front passenger seat.
"Good thing she was with you. If she were with a man, she might have suffered a lot," Maya said regretfully. "Why did a young girl drink so much?"
"Maybe because of 'unattainable love,'" Chloe said softly, looking at the sleeping Sofia.
Chloe suddenly felt that she had grown a lot through Sofia's ordeal.
Rebecca had mentioned that Mr. Blake rarely smiled at the company; Sofia had also said that Mr. Blake doesn’t smile anymore.
It seemed that after she left, his smiles had indeed become fewer.
Although he hadn't smiled much before, it wasn't that he had never smiled.
Chloe pondered, watching as her heart's balance slowly tilted towards Donovan.
After dropping Sofia off at the dorm, they drove back to Serenity Springs Estates.
Chloe chatted with Maya in the car and didn’t notice a taxi following them.
Opening the door, Chloe felt very tired.
After entering her room, she heard noises in the house, listened cautiously, and felt a bit scared, thinking, 'Could someone have broken in?'
"Maya, Maya," Chloe called out in her room, being very careful with her belly.
"What are you shouting for?" a familiar voice responded, and then someone pushed open Chloe's bedroom door.
He stood at the doorway of Chloe's bedroom, wearing a black shirt, broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted, with strikingly handsome features. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, holding a wrench, as if busy with something.
In this state, he was inexplicably sexy.
"It's you?" Chloe didn't realize her voice had softened, and her eyes sparkled.
