Chapter 177 Diary
"Mr. Wilson's method is not bad. What do you think, Chloe?"
It seems that Donovan has left Chloe with a choice. He is truly the best husband and boss in the world! To avoid being transferred out of the audit department, Chloe had to grit her teeth and agree.
"But I'm not good at writing," she emphasized. "I don't read novels."
"Then write it like a diary."
"Okay," Donovan said, "Submit it every day."
Chloe walked away dejected, thinking, ‘Is Barbara the one who snitched again? Why does Brayden always cause trouble for her?’
"Donovan, are you scolding your wife again? Your use of this trick to shift blame is clever. I bet Chloe will start hating me from now on," Charles gritted his teeth and said, "I think you are very cunning."
"I don't think so, let's talk business."
Chloe returned to the office and started working. She found that keeping a diary was actually not bad. Her daily work was chaotic, but writing it down helped organize her day, benefiting her work. Additionally, recording events from her life allowed her to recall when they happened.
One day, when Chloe went to see Amelia, Amelia told her something, “Uncle Daniel, while driving a bus, collided with a large truck coming from the opposite direction because he was giving way to an ambulance. He broke his leg, couldn't work after being discharged, and only received a minimum wage of one to two thousand dollars per month.”
Amelia also said to Chloe, "Chloe, your uncle's family is also having a hard time. Although Barbara has a bad temper, she is still your cousin. Show some support. She may not treat us well, but we should not act unjustly. It's not foolishness. It's about being humane."
Chloe responded with a simple "okay."
Since leaving New East, Barbara seemed to have disappeared from Maple Valley. Chloe noted this in her diary as well.
One day, after handing her diary to Donovan, Chloe noticed that he hadn't even opened it before it was time to leave work. She observed his attire as they left together for home.
The next morning, as they went to work together, Chloe found her diary already placed on her desk. Considering the timing, Donovan probably hadn't had the chance to read it.
Chloe tested this a few times and found that he never did. Chloe was certain he never read it, making her diary submissions merely a formality.
From then on, she became bolder in her diary entries. Once, she even wrote her heartfelt thoughts, ‘Donovan was no good, displaying tyrannical behavior every night.’
She also started drawing a solid star at the end of each diary entry, with rare exceptions.
Toward the end of the month, Chloe had something she was embarrassed to admit—she was financially tight. She recorded this in her diary because even though she submitted it to Donovan daily, he never read it, making the diary essentially for herself. Despite her financial struggles, Chloe felt more at ease by writing it down. She knew that their marriage might end one day, but for now, she was content. Her mother was a very wise person. Having ideals but lacking money was a challenging feeling. New East Group paid salaries on the 8th of every month, and there were still ten days to go. She stopped going out for lunch at noon, preparing her meals at home and bringing them to the office.
"Aren't you cooking for me anymore?" Donovan asked.
"Since you enjoyed that exclusive meal last time, I didn't want to overdo it," Chloe replied. "Besides, the audit department is very busy these days, and going out for lunch wastes time."
Donovan didn't say much but noticed that Chloe's meals were not as lavish as before.
Chloe had hoped to get through this period, but unexpectedly, the person who brought Donovan his shirts showed up again. One problem unresolved, another one arose!
