Chapter 354 Losing Money So Unexpected

Carol stepped out of the Donovan's living room and into the yard.

Just then, Maya emerged from the storage room, struggling with a heavy cardboard box.

Carol froze for a moment. She recognized the box—it was something she had bought for Chloe.

Maya was clearly having a hard time with it, and the box was still sealed, meaning the contents were unused.

Carol clenched her teeth. She had carefully picked this out for Chloe, yet Chloe had the nerve to reject it!

She had already told Chloe she wouldn't be as awful as Barbara, but Chloe still didn't trust her.

"Mr. Perez, hold on. I forgot my lipstick," Carol said.

She headed back into the living room.

A servant opened the door for her.

Inside, she saw Chloe and Donovan intimate on the sofa, cuddling each other.

Donovan had an arm around Chloe's waist, smiling and whispering to her, while Chloe acted all flirty.

The necklace Chloe had been wearing was gone.

"Oh, Mr. Blake, Mrs. Blake, I can't find my lipstick. Mind if I check the sofa?" Carol said.

She started searching the sofa cushions.

Donovan watched her closely.

"Can't find it. Sorry to bother you. Really, I'm so sorry. Goodbye, Mr. Blake, Mrs. Blake." Carol turned and left, feeling like she had just stepped on a landmine.

She stormed out of the house, fuming.

'I was trying to be nice to Donovan and Chloe, even if it wasn't genuine, but what was wrong with my gift? How could Chloe insult me like that?' she thought.

"Is Francis awake?" Gordon's voice came from his room's doorway.

Chloe's expression changed instantly, not on purpose, but reflexively, and she gritted her teeth.

She had planned to visit Francis once he woke up.

"I'm tired, I'm going upstairs," Chloe said, heading to the bedroom on the second floor.

She felt like Gordon and Clara had no plans to leave. They were bonding with Francis, and once that bond grew strong, it would be hard to break.

Donovan was about to go upstairs too, but then there was a knock on the door.

Logan showed up.

He looked really down, and when seeing Donovan, he seemed ready to unload his troubles.

"Mr. Blake," Logan said, his eyes almost teary.

"You're a man. Why so upset?" Donovan sat back down on the sofa and asked.

"Mr. Blake, you don't know," Logan said, hanging his head. "NexInnovate Technologies was supposed to sponsor 'The Elite Family' set but out of nowhere, 'The Elite Family' set announced they were cutting ties with NexInnovate. My new game, which was supposed to be featured, is now dead in the water. Your investment..."

"The folks at NexInnovate are probably more worried than you. Just wait," Donovan said, not as rattled as Logan.

Five million was pocket change to him. He could handle the loss.

"It was all set. This game could've been huge, but now we might not even break even," Logan said, grabbing his head with both hands. "I'm sorry, Mr. Blake, I've dragged you into this."

"No big deal," Donovan said, puzzled. Logan had been in business for years, so why would this loss be so unexpected to him?
