Chapter 521 That Middle-aged Man
The next day, Chloe picked up Jane, and they rushed back to school for the conference.
Since Chloe was a teacher, she had a seat in the third row. By the time they arrived, most people had already arrived. Chloe was a bit worried that Jane was being noticed since she wasn't from the school, so they tried to keep a low profile.
A big poster at the front of the auditorium read, "Welcome Derek Bell as our Honorary Professor."
Derek was sitting at the podium, and when he spotted Chloe, his gaze lingered for a moment.
"That Mr. Bell is quite the looker," Jane whispered to Chloe, turning around.
"Yeah," Chloe replied, staring intently at Derek.
Derek started talking about his thoughts on becoming an honorary professor and gave a report on hypnosis to the students.
"Wow, look at you, all serious. Do you have a crush on Mr. Bell?" Jane teased.
"Stop it. I'll tell you tonight," Chloe said.
"Alright, you can spill the beans while lying on my bed tonight," Jane said.
The conference lasted for two hours. When they left the auditorium, it was snowing heavily.
"It's snowing! Pearl Peak City is so beautiful. It hasn't snowed at all this winter in Maple Valley," Jane said, stretching out her hand to catch the snow at the entrance of the auditorium.
"Yeah," Chloe said, feeling emotional as she watched the snowflakes fluttering down from the sky.
Every time she saw snow, whether on Emerald Isle or Aurora Isle, it reminded Chloe of Donovan walking through the snow that winter. The memory lingered in her mind.
She felt especially lonely every winter in Emerald Isle, often missing him so much it broke her heart. But the things he did made her feel cold when she thought about them.
Snapping out of her memories, she realized several years had passed, and she couldn't help but feel a bit desolate.
There was always something about someone that you couldn't forget.
Being sentimental, Chloe thought of Donovan again. She glanced back at the auditorium, scanning the crowd to see if he was there. She remembered Donovan had mentioned coming to see who was the new honorary professor.
Chloe looked back but didn't see any sign of Donovan as Derek was talking to the school leaders, looking quite pleased. He probably sensed Chloe looking at him and glanced at her, nodding slightly.
"What are you looking for?" Suddenly, a voice came behind.
Chloe turned to see that Donovan had appeared behind her.
"Mr. Blake? What are you doing here?" Jane exclaimed with happiness, as if she had run into an old friend.
Maybe Donovan forgot the question he had just asked, or maybe Jane interrupted him, so Chloe didn't respond. The three of them walked outside the place.
"Where's Francis?" Chloe asked.
"He didn't come with me. He and Maya are seeing Jeffery off. Let's go check it out together," Donovan said.
Jane was confused, not knowing who they were talking about, so she just followed them to the school entrance.
Sure enough, Jeffery, in his military uniform, was saying goodbye to Maya.
"This guy is so handsome. Is he your suitor?" Jane was immediately smitten when she saw Jeffery, afraid Donovan might hear, so she whispered in Chloe's ear.
"Yeah, you like him? I can introduce you," Chloe said.
Jane pulled Chloe aside. "Are you crazy? Why would you pass up such a handsome guy for Donovan, that middle-aged man?"
