Chapter 490 The Child is Sick
"Well, I don't want to buy one from our school. This place is just right for me, and living on campus is super convenient," Chloe said, looking down. She didn't mention her plan to buy a house in Rebecca Residential Community. She still had Rebecca on her mind, which meant she hadn't forgotten her past with Donovan.
"Are you really not buying?" Donovan asked.
"I'm really not buying," she said firmly.
"Then where will I stay when I come?"
Chloe turned to look at him and rolled her eyes. "Not at my place."
Chloe never intended to let him stay at her place.
"Also, did you find out what I asked you to investigate?" Chloe asked. She figured even if Donovan was that capable, he wouldn't find out so quickly. She asked on purpose to stop Donovan from constantly talking about sleeping and living together.
"How could it be that fast?" Donovan retorted, thinking, 'It's not that I can't investigate; I just don't want to. I don't want to know about her social connections. Knowing that Todd gave me his cornea and that she isn't Todd's biological child has made me weary. Actually, I don't need to know who she is; it's enough that she is just herself.'
"Then you better keep your word," Chloe said.
Donovan chuckled twice, insincerely saying, "I will."
"Where are you staying tonight?" Chloe asked again, a bit uneasy.
"At Kenneth's house," he replied.
Only then did Chloe let out a sigh of relief, somewhat afraid of his strong desires.
Donovan finished organizing the boxes in the room. When he went to the bathroom to wash his hands, his phone rang. It was Cynthia. He frowned slightly. "Hello."
"Jake is sick. He's running a fever. I just started taking care of Jake and don't know what to do." Cynthia was at a loss, sounding quite flustered.
"Sick? Just take him to the hospital," Donovan said.
Hearing him mention someone being sick, Chloe was very concerned, frowning and worrying about the sick person.
"But I don't have a car and can't drive. I... I'll try find another way." Cynthia was almost in tears, panicking.
Donovan frowned again. "Wait a moment. I'll come."
He seemed a bit impatient, unwilling to deal with this, but he had no choice.
"Are you in Pearl Peak City? I was going to call to ask you," Cynthia said.
"Wait a bit. I'll drive over," Donovan said and hung up.
"Who's sick?" Chloe asked.
"Jake," he replied.
Chloe had never met Jake. When she was at school before, Janet hadn't let her see Jake, but she guessed it was probably Janet's child. It made sense for Cynthia to seek Donovan's help because of this.
"You're not going?" Donovan's gaze fell on Chloe's slightly worried face.
"I have to go to the registrar's office this afternoon to submit a form, so I won't go. I wouldn't be of any help and might just cause more trouble. Just let me know when Jake gets better," Chloe declined.
Donovan picked up his coat and left, and Chloe's room returned to its quiet state.
Chloe thought since Donovan had gone, Jake should be fine. Although she found Janet very annoying, Jake was innocent and quite pitiful.
Donovan arrived at Cynthia's house, and Cynthia was very anxious.
"He's so hot," Donovan said after feeling Jake's forehead.
"He probably caught a cold. He kept kicking off the blanket last night," Cynthia said.
"Grab the necessary documents and come with me to the hospital," Donovan said anxiously.
"I've got them ready," Cynthia patted her bag. She did this kind of thing often.
