Chapter 507 The Battle Between Women
At Stellar Corp's Investment Department.
The bigwigs from Stellar Corp were all there. The New East Group folks wanted to come too, but Maple Valley was just too far.
Timothy was hanging out when they arrived, a massive rendering on the wall behind him. Chloe was floored, staring at the huge banner: [Rebecca Residential Community Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Rebecca Hospital, Rebecca Mall.]
Rebecca's name was plastered everywhere.
Chloe suddenly got how huge Donovan's deal was, and her anger towards him started to fade.
Timothy was clearly pumped too, his hands shaking as he explained, "This is the biggest community in Pearl Peak City. I've already started leasing out the mall spaces, and with Stellar Corp and New East Group backing it, people will be lining up to buy. Plus, if any of you execs want to snag a house here, we can hook you up with a 20-25% discount. It's a one-time deal, all in Phase 1, prime spots. First come, first served."
Chloe had been eyeing a house for a while. She thought she'd wait until they went on sale, but Timothy's employee discount was too good to pass up. She was itching to buy, but she was broke. She didn't want to touch the $20 million Donovan had given her, which was just sitting in the bank. It never felt like her money.
She figured a house would set her back over $2 million, and she didn't have that kind of cash. The only person she could think of who might have that kind of money was Donovan. She glanced at him, and he was staring at the rendering.
On the way back, Chloe couldn't bring herself to ask for money, just staring out the window. Donovan broke the silence, "You want to buy a house?"
"How'd you know?" she asked.
Donovan laughed. "If you're not buying the house at the school, you're definitely eyeing the Rebecca Residential Community."
Chloe figured he guessed it because of the name "Rebecca." Her anger was gone by now. She needed to borrow money. She thought, 'If he can lend money to Cynthia, he can lend to me too. Even though I need more, I make nearly a million a year, and he knows I can pay it back.'
"Can you lend me some money? I'll pay interest at the bank's rate," Chloe finally said.
"No!"
Chloe was about to say she'd pay him back with her earnings from Stellar Corp this year and her project funds next year, but he cut her off. She felt embarrassed. When they got to the school gate, she asked Donovan to stop the car and ran straight into Willow Grove Estates.
Donovan didn't even drive into the school.
Walking through the path to Willow Grove Estates, Chloe saw Cynthia, who looked super happy. When they saw each other, they both had their own thoughts.
Chloe felt Donovan treated Jake better than Francis and lent money to Cynthia but not to her, which made her feel off-balance; while Cynthia's disdain for Chloe started that night Chloe brought food to the hospital.
And that's how the rivalry between them began.
