Chapter 345 My Son, Not Yours?

Chloe didn't text Brayden on WhatsApp, worried Donovan might get suspicious and jealous. Plus, she was too lazy to deal with the endless questions Brayden would ask.

She was also still weak and in pain from losing a baby girl, so she wasn't in the mood to handle other people's issues.

Chloe had already told Carol what to do, and she trusted Carol wouldn't just sit around. If Carol could make up with Chloe for her career, she could definitely reach out to Brayden.

When Chloe suggested the idea to Carol, Donovan didn't object. Carol, being sharp, knew working with Brayden was the only way, and Donovan wouldn't interfere. She had been blacklisted by Donovan before and lost all her gigs, so she was scared.

To be safe, Chloe didn't use the big gift package Carol sent. After having Maya check it, she stored it in the hillside villa's warehouse, planning to sell it when the garbage collectors came by.

Chloe was extra cautious now, especially after the white phosphorus incident, and with a child to protect.

Moving back to the hillside villa was Donovan's call. Chloe's childbirth was an accident, and moving back meant leaving many of her old things behind.

Especially her diary.

"Can you move my stuff from Serenity Springs Estates?" Chloe asked Donovan.

"If it's not there, just buy new ones," Donovan replied.

Chloe didn't push it.

"Are you going back to Serenity Springs Estates?" she asked.

"No."

"You're not renting it out, right?"

"I'm not that desperate for money."

Chloe felt relieved knowing no one would be in that house. She started a new diary.

But Donovan knew why she asked. She was afraid someone would read her old diary.

So, one day, when he said he was going to work, he actually went to Serenity Springs Estates, broke into Chloe's desk, and read her diary.

He learned all about Chloe's feelings, including her time in Verdania, where she was busy with studies and barely saw Brayden, let alone had any intimate moments.

The child was indeed conceived the night before their exams; everything matched up.

The solid pentagram drawn at the back of the diary? Donovan knew it meant she marked every time they were intimate. Their frequency was high back then.

Donovan hired two more nannies: Kimberly Harris to take care of the baby and another to help with meals and assist Maya. With more people around, the sizeable single-story layout wasn't very convenient.

Kimberly would walk around downstairs with Francis every day while Chloe rested upstairs, recuperating. She rarely looked after the baby.

She always felt weak and lethargic, and since coming back, she had only held the baby twice.

About a month after returning home, she picked up her books and started studying finance and foreign languages.

Her books were on the bedside table, and Donovan noticed.

He didn't say anything.

He was just waiting for her to ask him to go to Verdania.

Chloe had given him a son, and Donovan was in a good mood. Although they had lost a daughter, his feelings weren't as strong as Chloe's. She had spent nine months with that child and was very attached. Donovan had never seen the child and couldn't feel that kind of emotion.

All his unhappiness stemmed from Chloe's unhappiness, but it was far less intense than hers.

That night, after Donovan went to bed, the baby cried downstairs.

Chloe tossed and turned before finally nudging Donovan. "Your son is crying, go check on him."

"My son? Isn't he yours too?" Donovan frowned.

He didn't want her to go downstairs, as she hadn't fully recovered yet.

What bothered him was that she didn't seem like a mother at all, not caring about Francis, as if she had given birth but was planning to leave soon.

Feeling guilty, Chloe said, "Of course he's mine too, but I..."

"Is it convenient for me to go to Kimberly's room this late?" Donovan asked.

"Then I'll go," Chloe said, getting out of bed.
