Chapter 467 She's Not Afraid Anymore
Chloe thought, 'Pamela is really impressive, she talks as if she had seen everything with her own eyes.'
"Whose child is Jake?" Chloe asked again.
"Jake is Elbert's child. Elbert had uremia and has now passed away. Jake is the only heir of the Carter family, so of course Janet wants to protect Jake," Pamela said truthfully.
Pamela was aware that Donovan already knew the truth about Jake, and Chloe would eventually learn it too. Lying to Chloe would be futile; any deceit would only cause Chloe to doubt everything Pamela said.
To maintain her credibility, Pamela chose to be truthful this time, hoping to convince Chloe of Donovan's ruthless nature.
Chloe clenched her fists, suddenly feeling scared. With everything involving Amelia, Paisley, and Janet, what kind of person was Donovan really?
"Ms. Baker, one day when you are old, he will find someone new. After all, men in their eighties still like women in their twenties. Just think about how he will treat you then, and how he had treated Amelia," Pamela said.
Chloe didn't speak; she hadn't thought about any of this.
"Ms. Baker, aren't you curious how I know everything?" Pamela asked.
Pamela was indeed more terrifying than Chloe had imagined.
"But why are you targeting me?" Chloe finally asked what was on her mind.
Pamela paused. "Your biological mother Kathy is my..."
"Stop." Chloe waved her hand. "Do you think I believe that? How could she be my biological mother?"
Kathy hadn't called Chloe once in three years, offering no words of concern or support.
"Whether you believe it or not, it's true." Pamela stood up, pinched Chloe's chin, and scrutinized her closely. "You really look like her."
"Who?" Chloe asked.
"Kathy, don't you think so?" Pamela said. "Back then, she stole my man, and now, it's your turn! Be careful, or one day, Francis might end up in the river. Look."
With that, Pamela took out her phone and showed the pictures of Francis.
He was playing with sand,and having fun with water guns alongside other kids.
Chloe suddenly felt a wave of fear.
"Also, as long as you are with Donovan, you can't keep this matter hidden. Chloe, you'll end up lonely for the rest of your life." Pamela continued, displaying more photos.
Chloe's brows furrowed tightly, thinking, 'Pamela is really impressive, she knows even such private matters.' She wasn't afraid of Pamela sending these photos to Donovan, but was terrified of how Pamela got these photos.
"Chloe, do you think your three years on Emerald Isle were just peaceful? No, your life was colorful because of Derek Bennett. You two, I don't need to say more." Pamela swiped through the photos one by one.
In the photos, Chloe was lying on an examination bed, with Derek dressed in medical attire sitting beside her, watching as she drifted off to sleep.
Derek gave Chloe a doll, which she loved; there were some books Chloe couldn't buy, but Derek got them for her, making her very happy.
Chloe cried in Derek's arms.
These moments were taken in Derek’s clinic, private and intimate, but Pamela had somehow acquired them.
"Ms. Baker, you really are a beauty, with so many men surrounding you. Well, I’ll leave you to it." With that, Pamela exited with graceful steps, her outward elegance masking her malicious intent.
The room fell into an eerie silence as Chloe’s phone rang.
Chloe suddenly had an impulse. She thought, 'Pamela knows everything. I might as well confront her directly, no more hiding.
She wasn't afraid anymore.
