Chapter 449 The Moonlight Covered the Ground
In fact, Charles was quite a competent "nanny."
On the days Donovan went out for negotiations, he would take photos of Francis's and send them to Donovan. He would also send pictures of the meals he made for Francis to Donovan, to prove that he wasn't slacking off.
Today, Charles took Francis to the neighborhood park to play with other kids. From the photos, it looked like Francis was having a great time, sweating profusely.
Charles suddenly pushed open Donovan's bedroom door and barged in, saying, "By the way, when I was heading back, Maya asked me if you had met the person Jeffery likes?"
Donovan stopped what he was doing but said nothing.
"Close the door behind you when you leave!"
Charles remained silent.
Donovan thought for a moment and then posted the photos Charles had sent him on Facebook with a very simple caption: [Francis is three years old.]
Donovan usually didn't post on Facebook. When he did, it was for a reason.
Ever since Chloe left, he had been posting a lot, mostly photos of Francis. And whether Chloe still used that phone or not, he had already blocked her on WhatsApp, preventing her from seeing his Facebook posts.
He just wanted to see Chloe eagerly checking out his Facebook profile, trying to get a glimpse of the contents within but unable to see anything.
That would serve her right!
The next evening, at Savoria Bistro.
Before the dinner, Cynthia spent the entire afternoon getting ready, making sure her makeup looked appropriate but not overdone. She was very nervous.
She finally put together a simple yet sophisticated outfit and went to pick up Chloe.
After Chloe got into her car, she couldn't shake the feeling that she herself, as Donovan had said, was someone who specialized in setting up dinners for others. A three-person date felt so awkward.
But Cynthia had mentioned that her favorite person was her late husband. Besides, she was in her thirties; it was a bit pretentious to be hung up on these things. It was just a reunion between old classmates, nothing more.
Savoria Bistro was a small building with a lot of charm.
Looking out the window, Chloe remarked, "Cynthia, you really picked a great place for a date."
Just as Chloe turned to smile at Cynthia, she noticed Donovan walking in.
Chloe's face instantly soured, and she didn't notice Cynthia's unusual behavior. Cynthia seemed to be trembling all over.
Donovan sat down and started ordering.
When Cynthia spoke to him, her voice was a bit stuttered.
Donovan pretended not to notice, but Chloe found it strange. She thought, 'They were both classmates before. Even if Cynthia had a crush on Donovan, shouldn't that have been over by now?'
Donovan made small talk about many things from their school days.
Chloe kept drinking water; she couldn't join in the conversation because she didn't know the people they were talking about.
When the food arrived, Chloe noticed that Donovan had ordered dishes she loved.
They were talking about old times, and Chloe couldn't join in, so she ate alone.
She had spent three years in Emerald Isle, eating a lot of Emerald Isle food. After returning to the States, she mostly ate at the university cafeteria, which rarely served such refined dishes.
While Donovan and Cynthia were talking, his gaze occasionally fell on Chloe.
Chloe was about to grab a piece of steak, and the plate was suddenly shoved nearer to her.
She looked up and saw that Donovan had pushed it. She nodded to express her thanks.
Just as Chloe was halfway through her meal, her phone suddenly rang. It was Isabel.
Chloe answered the call and responded briefly.
Isabel was asking about the topic of a project, saying she had searched up a lot of information but couldn't find anything relevant.
Chloe sensed the call would take a while, so she stepped outside Savoria Bistro.
The restaurant wasn't big. Once outside, Chloe was greeted by the moonlight illuminating the ground, casting a bright glow all around.
As Isabel talked, Chloe listened, occasionally nodding and offering suggestions on which books to check out.
Before she knew it, they had been talking for forty minutes.
