Chapter 349 Wishing Time Could Rewind Two Years
After Ann left, Chloe felt down for a few days, smothered by Clara's overbearing care.
Then Maya came by to ask for some time off.
"Maya, why the sudden leave? I just had a baby and really need help," Chloe said.
Maya had been with the Blake family for years, and during their time at Serenity Springs Estates, she and Chloe had grown close. Naturally, Chloe didn't want her to go. With Maya around, at least she had someone to talk to.
Hearing Maya leave made Chloe feel insecure.
"Mrs. Blake, my son has exams this week. I want to be with him, is that okay?"
Chloe understood. "For that reason, sure."
"I'll go back tomorrow, stay with him for a few days after the exams, and return in five days, okay?" Maya said.
"Okay." Chloe thought, 'They have a strong bond, and exams are important. I can't stop her.'
Maya left with a thoughtful look.
In truth, Maya had her reasons: Clara was in the kitchen every day, cooking all sorts of dishes for Chloe, even more diligently than Maya. Sometimes, Clara would complain that Maya's cooking was too heavy, disrupting the meals Maya had planned. Since Clara was Donovan's mother, Maya couldn't argue with her.
Maya knew a bit about the situation with Amelia. She knew Chloe resented Gordon, and Clara was eager to make up for Gordon's mistakes. Clara wanted to gain a voice in the household by cooking for Chloe, but she was overdoing it, making Chloe feel oppressed.
Maya understood all this but knew every family had its own issues.
So, she didn't reveal the real reason to Chloe, only saying she was going home to be with her son for his exams.
In reality, her eldest son didn't need her for his exams at all.
Since Clara was emphasizing her own needs, Maya decided to give her the opportunity.
After Maya left, Chloe felt even more suffocated at home.
At this time, Donovan was planning to go to Pearl Peak City for a class reunion.
"I'm going too?" Chloe was surprised.
"Yes. As the mother of my child, isn't it appropriate for you to go?"
"But I'm just a housewife now, always unkempt and sloppy," Chloe tugged at her clothes.
"That's just what you think," Donovan looked her up and down. Although she had given birth, her features had become even more charming, and her figure hadn't changed. Seeing this, he felt his possessiveness grew stronger.
Chloe thought, 'Going to Pearl Peak City might be good. It's too stifling at home. Maybe Donovan knew I was feeling cooped up, so he organized the class reunion.'
"Can you get up early tomorrow?" Donovan asked Chloe.
"Doesn't that depend on you?" Chloe muttered.
These past few days, Donovan and Chloe lingered together every night until late.
"I won't touch you tonight, so you can sleep early."
Chloe nodded.
The two of them set off at ten o'clock the next day. Looking at the familiar road to Pearl Peak City, Chloe couldn't help but think of the days when she and Donovan went back to Pearl Peak City after their agreement to marry-time had flown by.
Chloe thought of something and turned to ask Donovan, "Are we staying at Grandpa's house tonight?"
"We're staying at a hotel. The reunion is at a hotel, so we'll stay there."
"Okay. Which classmates are these?" Chloe asked him.
"High school."
"Which high school did you go to?" Chloe wanted to clarify.
"A private high school. It was connected to studying abroad."
Chloe nodded slowly, then asked again, "Who organized this reunion?"
"Can you stop? Why so many questions?" Donovan turned to look at her.
Chloe then fell silent, looking at the scenery outside. The road was lined with green trees and lush leaves, with few people around. The scenery was beautiful, and Chloe wished time could go back two years, hoping Kenneth was still around.
