Chapter 280 Chloe's Heart Rippled Once Again
Even though Donovan knew where Karen was, he couldn't bring her to confront Chloe.
Whether Gordon or Donovan was responsible for Amelia's death, it was still someone from the Blake family.
Donovan didn't want Chloe to resent him or Gordon. He could only maintain that it was an accident.
On her way home, Chloe, with time to spare, scrolled through social media.
She found out that a few days ago, Paisley had posted on her social media a picture of a table filled with delicious dishes, with the caption: [Having dinner with my crush.]
Paisley had also tagged the location, which happened to be the same restaurant where Chloe had previously dined with Sofia, and the date matched the day Chloe had been there at noon.
During that time, Donovan had returned to the hillside villa, and Chloe was unaware of his whereabouts.
However, she was convinced that Paisley's crush was Donovan.
Chloe's eyes revealed a hint of panic: the things she had mentioned, particularly about her plans to go abroad in January, he must have overheard. He had specifically requested for her to come to the company today to possibly prevent her from going abroad.
Chloe frowned slightly, thinking, 'Donovan was terrifying, omnipresent.'
A few days later, Chloe had to go for a prenatal checkup.
As her pregnancy progressed, the checkups became more frequent, almost weekly to monitor her blood sugar levels.
This time, she didn't inform Donovan. In fact, she hadn't told him before. She mentioned it to Maya in the morning and then sent Susan a WhatsApp message.
However, Susan ended up informing Donovan.
Susan: [Mrs. Blake requested my company for a prenatal checkup today. I'm heading to Serenity Springs Estates.]
Donovan replied via voice message, "Just drop her off and come back."
Susan: [Understood.]
When they arrived at the hospital, Susan mentioned that she would wait downstairs, allowing Chloe and Maya to go upstairs.
Today, Jane was working. Chloe typically preferred to have her check-ups on the days when Jane was at the hospital.
Jane looked at Chloe's various indicators, "Your blood sugar is well controlled. How about his?"
"What?" Chloe was puzzled.
"I meant Mr. Blake. Is he still harassing you?" Jane, as a doctor, asked such questions without any hesitation.
" Oh, not recently. He's been pretty chill lately." Even Chloe didn't understand why he had suddenly become so calm, as if his state of mind was incredibly peaceful.
Someone pushed the door open from outside, and Chloe immediately assumed it was Maya, who had gone downstairs to pay for the ultrasound.
This time, they needed an ultrasound to check on the babies.
To her surprise, when she turned around, she saw Donovan. She wasn't sure if he had overheard the words "forcing himself.
"What are you doing here?" Chloe said calmly.
"Of course, I need to be here for your prenatal checkup."
"I'm going for an ultrasound now. Men are not allowed. You wait here." With that, Chloe left.
The ultrasound results were ready in about ten minutes, and Chloe brought back the report to Jane's office.
Coincidentally, someone knocked on the door to ask for a medical record from Jane, so she requested Chloe to wait a moment while she stepped outside.
Now, only Chloe and Donovan were in Jane's office.
Just from this short trip, Chloe's forehead was already covered in fine beads of sweat, which Donovan noticed and felt a twinge of heartache.
"Aren't you going to wipe your sweat?" he asked.
Then, he picked up a tissue to wipe Chloe's sweat.
Chloe took the opportunity to grab Donovan's wrist, asking, "Do you know about my plans to go abroad?"
Chloe asked suddenly, her small hand struggling to hold his wrist. If he didn't let her, she wouldn't have the opportunity to threaten him.
She had threatened him on multiple occasions before. Donovan wasn't taken aback by Chloe's response.
Once Paisley posted on social media, he knew this issue wouldn't stay hidden from Chloe.
"Is it a secret? Only Brayden is allowed to know?" he asked her, not stopping his action of wiping Chloe's sweat.
"I must go! Don't try to stop me," Chloe said righteously.
Under the sunlight, her forehead was covered in sweat, and her face was slightly red, like the rising sun.
"Give birth to the children, and I'll raise them. I won't stop you from anything else." Donovan was aware that if he attempted to intervene, she might react unexpectedly.
"Why should you raise them?" Chloe looked puzzled. She was unsure if Maria had come to propose on Brayden's behalf, and Donovan might have found some clues.
This man, with eyes as sharp as a hawk, always found things others couldn't.
"I am the most suitable person financially and materially. With the kids here, you will return.”
It turned out he wanted to raise the children not because he knew they were his, but to make sure Chloe would come back. Chloe's heart was stirred once more.
