Chapter 229 She's Really Pregnant
The next day, Donovan went to work.
Chloe packed her bags and left.
She had booked her flight ticket last night.
Before the plane took off, she received a text message from the bank informing her that Donovan had transferred twenty million dollars to her card in multiple installments.
Moreover, Donovan's assistant reached out to Chloe by sending a message that included the details of two luxurious suites in Maple Valley, photos of the property deeds, and transfer information. It had been a while since this assistant had last communicated with Chloe.
When Chloe received a message from someone named "David Thomas from the computer company," she was puzzled. She couldn't understand why David was sending her information about a house.’
He then explained, "I am Mr. Blake's assistant, and this is my personal number. In the future, if you can contact me on this number."
Chloe's smile turned bitter as she came to the realization that Donovan had been dishonest with her all along. He never truly trusted her and had been plotting against her from the start.
She switched off her phone as the plane began its ascent. Brayden was waiting for her at the airport to welcome her.
After getting into the car, Brayden asked Chloe, "You've been gone for so long. Are you tired?"
"Working day and night, it's indeed tiring. In the future..." Chloe glanced out the window, feeling a pang of sadness, then continued, "It's all coming to an end."
"Have you divorced him?" Brayden inquired.
"Yes, I have," Chloe replied, feeling nauseous but managing to hold it back.
However, her nausea intensified.
"Did you eat something wrong?" Brayden asked Chloe.
"I don't think so," Chloe replied.
She attempted to remember what she had eaten on the plane, pondering if it was something like egg yolk, but she couldn't understand why.
"Maybe you should see a doctor," Brayden suggested. "I have a private physician who can examine you."
Chloe nodded.
At Brayden's residence.
After the doctor examined Chloe, the initial findings indicated that Chloe was pregnant. Chloe was taken aback, and Brayden was even more shocked.
"Doctor, are you sure about this?" Chloe widened her eyes.
She was certain that the child was Donovan's, as he was her only partner.
She suspected that it must have occurred on the night before the exam, despite taking precautions and having Donovan use a condom.
Could it have slipped off because it had been on for too long?
The doctor shrugged, "If you're unsure, you can go to the hospital for confirmation and have a prenatal check-up."
After the doctor departed, Chloe felt lost. Recently divorced and now pregnant, she knew Donovan wouldn't believe the child was his, as he already thought she was pregnant that night.
Despite this, Chloe was determined to pursue her graduate studies and become an auditor; she refused to let the child hinder her progress. If she was indeed pregnant, continuing her education would become a challenge.
Chloe raised her hands, pounding her stomach.
"What are you doing, Chloe!" Brayden stopped her.
Chloe was very regretful, "I want to have an abortion."
"Chloe, Verdania doesn't allow abortions without valid reasons. Besides, it's not good for your health," Brayden anxiously advised Chloe.
After hesitating for a moment, Brayden said to Chloe, "Have the baby. I'll take care of it as my child. We'll never let Donovan know. Is that okay?"
Chloe was hesitant.
She always felt a pang of longing for Amelia; whenever she thought of her, memories of Donovan loomed in the background. In her dreams, Donovan often appeared, suffocating her and causing her distress. She was adamant about not wanting to bear his child. Unfortunately, abortion was not an option in Verdania, leaving her with no alternative but to carry the pregnancy to term. In that moment, Chloe felt utterly lost. Meanwhile, Brayden received a call from Ronald, urging him to come home and take over the family business.
"Dad, I'm doing well in Verdania. Why do you want me to come back?" Brayden had already adapted to the atmosphere and enjoyed its freedom.
But the most crucial factor was that Chloe was in Verdania. Initially, he had envisioned a carefree life with Chloe in Verdania.
However, with Chloe now expecting a child, he had to go back to his hometown, Maple Valley.
Donovan approached Ronald with a plea: allow Brayden to come back home.
"But, Mr. Blake," Ronald clearly disagreed.
If Brayden came back, he would always be overshadowed by Donovan.
Brayden had put in a lot of effort to make a name for himself overseas, and now that he was on the brink of launching his own company, he couldn't afford to falter at such a critical juncture.
"You disagree?" Donovan stared at Ronald.
Ronald already felt guilty toward the Blake family.
At that time, he had confided in Sarah about her husband's affair, detailing how Brian had lavished gifts on the other woman that Sarah couldn't afford. Sarah's anger grew as Ronald frequently showed her graphic depictions of betrayal and murder, planting seeds of vengeance in her mind. Slowly, Sarah started contemplating taking Brian's life, swayed by Ronald's relentless exposure to such disturbing content. Sarah's actions ultimately led to her becoming a pariah in the neighborhood.
One day, after Brian stayed out all night once again, the other woman sent a video of them in bed to their home, leading to Sarah's ultimate eruption. She was determined to reveal her husband's true character to everyone in the neighborhood.
The video wasn't sent by the other woman, but by Ronald. With Ronald aging and the incident involving Amelia, this matter seemed to be connected to the past.
In front of Donovan, he couldn't hold his head up high anymore.
"If you disagree, then the Perez family's estate, the South Central accounting firm..."
"I agree, I agree!" Ronald said anxiously.
He was aware that Donovan's wife had also traveled to Verdania. Despite Donovan having leverage over Ronald in the past, he had not taken any action against the Perez family.
This meant that there wouldn't be any conflicts between the two families.
However, since Donovan married Chloe, Chloe and Brayden had developed a closer relationship.
The Perez family's estate was teetering on the edge of ruin. With Donovan's influence and tactics, it was only a matter of time before the Perez family faced bankruptcy. Ronald had no other option but to reach out to Brayden.
