Chapter 318 Until Donovan Came Back
That day, around four in the afternoon, Chloe's doorbell rang; it was Jacob.
Jacob was holding a big gift bag. As he entered, he looked around and muttered to himself, "Damn, really wealthy!"
As soon as Jacob showed up, Chloe had a feeling that it wouldn't be something positive. Normally, at this time, Maya would be out grocery shopping, but Chloe had asked her to stay at home and keep an eye on him.
"For you." Chloe threw the big gift bag onto the couch and started pacing around the room.
Chloe gave Maya a look, and Maya picked up the vacuum cleaner, following Jacob wherever he went.
"What?" Chloe took out the items from the gift bag. They were all small clothes, shoes, and various accessories for children, all made of pure cotton, very well-made, and comfortable.
Chloe liked them very much.
"From you?" Chloe held a small piece of clothing to her face and asked Jacob.
"Me? I don't have the funds for that. Maria sent them. She said, after all, you're carrying her grandchild." Jacob sat on the couch, still looking around Chloe's house.
Last time, Donovan tried to win Jacob over, but Jacob didn't take a stand. Initially, he sided with Brayden, then he switched to Donovan. He was frightened after Donovan's blow, always fearing Donovan had more schemes and bigger problems for him.
So this time, he didn't take sides easily.
Chloe thought for a moment and said, "Actually, my child isn't Brayden's. It's Donovan's."
"His child?" Jacob raised an eyebrow, sneering. "He really is a rich guy, one pregnant at home, the other mistress outside."
"What do you mean?"
"What do I mean?" Jacob crossed his legs and was about to light a cigarette, but Maya stopped him.
"Paisley's public opinion was not very good, almost on the verge of a downfall, but Donovan helped her, did you know? Paisley recently donated supplies to Love Heart Elementary School in an effort to rebuild her reputation. People also consider his capital and have provided her with resources. If they weren't together, would he help her?"
"Jacob, hold your tongue. Mrs. Blake is pregnant." Maya was quite displeased hearing Jacob talk like this.
Last time at Kenneth's birthday, Jacob also caused trouble.
"He can do it, but others can't talk about it?"
Chloe frowned deeply; she knew nothing about this.
She had been busy with work lately and rarely watched the news.
Donovan always wanted her to stay home.
"Did I say too much?" Jacob saw Chloe's confused face and raised his hands. "I didn't say anything; I don't know anything. I'm leaving."
With that, Jacob left.
Chloe went back to her room and went to Paisley's Facebook page.
Paisley was quite high-profile, so she had no reason not to post about such things on social media.
But her account had no content in it. When Chloe checked the settings, she saw that the "Hide her posts" option was selected, but she knew she hadn't blocked Paisley.
Donovan did it.
Chloe got even angrier.
She called Sofia.
Sofia was in the PR department and should know about this.
But she hadn't told Chloe anything beforehand.
"What does Paisley's donation to Love Heart Elementary School mean? When did this happen?" Chloe asked as soon as the call connected.
"Chloe, you..."
"I know everything! Jacob told me! Now, explain, what's going on?" Chloe was furious. Donovan's flirtation with Paisley was one thing, but the most important was that Donovan knew Paisley had plotted to kill Walter, yet he still helped her.
"Chloe, don't be mad. Mr. Blake didn't want you to know because he was afraid it would upset you and affect the baby." Sofia was also anxious. "He meant no harm."
"Then why did he do it?"
This question stumped Sofia. She thought the same; Donovan knew it would cause Chloe to misunderstand, so why did he do it?
"Chloe, I'm also at a loss for words," Sofia said.
After hanging up, Chloe sat on the bed crying.
It was until Donovan came back.
