Chapter 164 He Came Treading Snow

In the days leading up to the New Year, Chloe had been busy, often working overtime.

Donovan hadn't been visiting Chloe in the evenings recently. He was also busy handling the affairs of the entire corporation, with little contact with Chloe.

Both of them were occupied with their own matters.

However, Donovan's driver would come to Chloe's house during the day, delivering the things Amelia and Chloe needed for the holidays at the Blake residence.

Amelia felt uneasy. "Is it okay for us to spend the holidays with the Blakes?" Amelia asked Layla.

"What's wrong with that? He's your son-in-law, and besides, I can tell Mr. Blake is quite nice to our Chloe," Layla said.

Amelia finally smiled in relief.

Chloe was still unaware that Donovan already knew about the cornea issue.

On the afternoon before the holiday, she was supposed to leave work early.

Sofia sent a message to Chloe on WhatsApp.

Sofia: [Chloe, have a happy holiday, see you after the holidays!]

Chloe: [Wishing you a happy holiday too! Good luck catching up with Logan~]

Sofia: [I heard that the corporation will be giving out bonuses to everyone this afternoon, let's wait and see how much I'll get this year.]

Chloe wasn't really clear about the bonus situation; she needed to pack up and leave.

Donovan sent a WhatsApp message to Chloe.

Donovan: [I'm busy, you head back to the villa first.]

Chloe didn't want him to pick her up, feeling a recent distance between them, with little to say.

Chloe returned to the hillside villa. Amelia and Layla were already there. Donovan had even bought a cat, entirely black with excellent fur quality, a very sharp-eyed breed that Chloe liked very much.

"Why did he suddenly buy a cat?" Chloe sat on the couch, stroking the cat's very soft fur.

"Mr. Blake felt the house was too empty," Maya said. "Since you went to accompany your mother, the house has felt quite lonely."

Chloe remained silent. "Does the cat have a name?"

"Well..." Maya hesitated.

"What's its name?" Chloe asked.

"Mr. Blake said to call it Chloe." After Maya finished speaking, she lowered her head.

Chloe pouted and muttered softly, "Why not call it Donovan?"

Grandpa chuckled, "You two... Also, Chloe, your mother is fine now, but you haven't come home to see Grandpa, have you?"

"How could I? I was afraid my mom couldn't adapt, so I went home to accompany her. I've been very busy during this New Year period, I can't be in two places at once. Besides, I know you're in good health, Grandpa, you'll definitely live a long and healthy life."

Chloe blushed with a smile; she was happy to be on vacation. Grandpa laughed again.

Chloe's phone buzzed with a notification that she had received a bonus of ten thousand dollars. This was her hard-earned income, which made her feel gratified.

The driver knocked on the door, and after the maid opened it, the driver brought in a lot of fireworks.

"These are the fireworks Mr. Blake ordered before," the driver said to Grandpa politely.

"Why so many?" Grandpa asked.

"Donovan likes them, so let him be, it's finally the holidays." Amelia said.

Chloe had never known he liked fireworks so much.

It was past five o'clock and getting dark. Snow began to fall from the sky, but he hadn't returned yet. Chloe wanted to go out to the yard to set off fireworks, so she grabbed Maya and went.

The fireworks were set up in the yard, but Chloe didn't dare to light them. Several times, she bravely tried, but the sporadic snowflakes extinguished the flames...

Just when Chloe was feeling a bit disheartened, the door opened, and Donovan walked in. He was wearing a medium-length wool coat, covered in snowflakes from head to toe. He came treading in snow.

This made Chloe feel very close to him, wanting to run over and hold an umbrella for him personally.

When he hadn't returned, Chloe had been worried about the road conditions, afraid he might have had an accident. Chloe felt so humble, having already decided to withdraw her feelings until the end of the marriage.

"Setting off fireworks?" he asked Chloe.

"Yes, but, Madam tried several times and couldn't light them." Maya said excitedly.

Donovan had a lighter in his hand and walked over to the fireworks. The fireworks began to spark, and Chloe quickly covered her ears and moved away. The fireworks soared into the sky, bursting into a brilliant pattern.

Chloe was very happy.

"Do you like it?" he stood next to Chloe and asked her.

"I quite like it," Chloe said sincerely.

"How does it compare to the fireworks from the other day?" he asked again.

Chloe's joyful mood was instantly extinguished; it turned out to be a topic he didn't want to mention, awkwardly waiting for her to bring it up, as he stood there. Seeing Chloe's smile gradually fade, Donovan returned to the living room.
