Chapter 698 Stirring His Heart
"No need. Do you think a phone call can fix anything? As long as it involves you or anyone related to you, I won't touch it. Not now, not ever. Don't flatter yourself. I don't hit women. But if something like what happened at the hotel happens again, I can't guarantee I won't kill you. Take care of yourself!" With that, Jeffery turned and left.
Jane was left alone, her face burning as she sat in her office. Before long, she covered her face with her hands and started crying.
She had thought that sleeping with Jeffery would secure everything, but instead, it had only brought out his rebellious side. Jeffery wasn't one to smile much, and ever since they slept together, he had been nothing but cold to Jane.
Unable to cope, Jane called Chloe and told her that Jeffery had just been there. She mentioned that Jeffery wasn't planning to take the job she had arranged for him and had spoken harshly to her. Everything seemed to be going downhill.
"Don't worry. Since Jeffery's parents don't know about his current situation, he probably needs money the most right now. I'll see if I can find him a job to stabilize his life. After all, you can't do anything without money." After hanging up, Chloe thought about her connections at Hudson University. After some consideration, Ann seemed like the best option. She was an experienced finance professional, and with Jeffery's skills, he would surely do well in the job.
Chloe hadn't been in touch with Ann for a long time. She didn't intend for Jeffery to work at Brayden's firm; she wanted Ann to find him a different job.
Ann did find a suitable job for Jeffery, as an accountant at a small CPA firm she owned. It was a small firm but had plenty of business. If Jeffery took the job, he would be the only full-time employee, and the pay was decent. Ann still worked at Brayden's firm most of the time.
Chloe called Jeffery, and after he answered, she explained the situation.
"Jeffery, this job isn't from Jane; it's through my connections. You can't keep wasting away. It's time to start working," Chloe said.
Jeffery's voice was hoarse as he simply replied, "Okay."
The next day, after teaching a class, Chloe met Jeffery at the entrance of Ann's new company.
To her surprise, Jeffery had arrived early and was waiting for the two women.
Ann gave Jeffery a once-over and said, "He's handsome. Good eye, Chloe."
"We're not matchmaking here," Chloe muttered.
"I could use a partner," Ann said.
"I thought you were all about the no-marriage, no-kids trend. It's quite fashionable," Chloe replied.
Ann and Chloe walked ahead, taking the elevator and entering the hallway, with Jeffery following behind.
As he watched Chloe walk in front of him, he remembered his fantasies about her and felt a sudden surge of restlessness. Chloe walked gracefully, her bag in hand, making Jeffery feel hot and bothered.
Suddenly, Chloe stopped and turned to Jeffery, saying, "This is the office, 1103. Remember it. You'll be the only one working here. Ann doesn't come by often."
Jeffery nodded blankly, "Okay."
