Chapter 249 It's Me
After dinner, Maya went to wash the dishes, Donovan and Charles were discussing matters in the living room, and Chloe returned to her room.
The project with Elevate Structures Group didn't go well, and coupled with her constantly criticized educational background, Chloe became increasingly anxious.
She must complete this postgraduate degree no matter what after having a child next year.
Chloe started writing her diary, with plenty of content to write about today.
But just as Chloe was thinking about what to write while twirling her pen, the pen suddenly dropped to the floor.
Chloe sat in her chair but couldn't bend down to pick it up. She tried to stand up, but she must have been exhausted today, as her legs were trembling.
She was sweating profusely from exhaustion.
"Maya, Maya!" Chloe called out for Maya in the room.
Maya was washing dishes in the kitchen. Chloe's room was far away, and the loud noise of the running water made it impossible for Maya to hear her.
Chloe was incredibly anxious.
"What's wrong?" Donovan pushed the door open.
"My pen, my pen..." Chloe stared at the pen. "I can't pick it up."
She used to be so agile, but now she felt embarrassed to ask for help with such a small matter. Chloe couldn't help but feel embarrassed.
Donovan saw the pen.
He picked it up and handed it to her.
"What are you doing?" he asked Chloe.
"Writing my diary," Chloe answered.
Donovan just glanced at the diary, and the word "postgraduate" on Chloe's diary caught his eye.
He opened the door and left.
Chloe had just closed her diary when she received a phone call from Gary, whom she had called this afternoon.
The president of Elevate Structures Group called her personally!
Chloe quickly answered it.
"Mr. Collins, hello! This is Chloe from First Accounting Firm," Chloe's voice was humble and polite.
"Alright. Chloe, when you called me this afternoon, I was in a meeting. Don't you want to do the audit for our company? It's the end of the year, and our company is very busy. So, come to our company tomorrow, and we'll discuss it in detail. Okay?" Gary asked.
"Alright. Mr. Collins, how about ten o'clock tomorrow morning?" Chloe's voice was very respectful.
"No problem. Go directly to the meeting room. For financial matters, I'll have Sharon talk to you," Gary said.
After hanging up the phone, Chloe's previously low and despondent mood disappeared. However, thinking about Sharon's attitude towards her today, Chloe couldn't help but feel anxious again, afraid that he would belittle her for being unprofessional and too young in front of Gary.
Chloe quickly sent a message to Susan.
Chloe: [Are you occupied tomorrow morning? Accompany me to Elevate Structures Group once more.]
Susan: [Mrs. Blake, I'm really sorry. My child is sick at home. I'm with him at the hospital. Could you ask Mr. Blake if he could arrange another car and driver for you?]
Chloe was disappointed.
Donovan was still in the living room, talking with Charles, and Chloe was tired, so she had to wait until tomorrow.
The next day, as soon as Chloe woke up, she sent a message to Donovan: [Have you left?]
Donovan: [Not yet.]
Chloe: [Then please wait for me.]
Chloe quickly put on her clothes and went to the living room.
Donovan had just finished washing up and sat down at the dining table.
Rolling up his sleeves, he asked Chloe, "What's up?"
"Can you arrange for a driver for me today? Susan's child is sick, and she's not available." Chloe also sat down to have breakfast.
"Where are you going?" Donovan asked.
"To Elevate Structures Group. Its CEO called me yesterday and asked me to go." Chloe couldn't hide the excitement in her voice.
"Okay," Donovan said casually and then started eating.
Chloe was restless. It was already eight thirty. Even if he had arranged a driver, the driver still had to come to pick her up, and there would definitely be a traffic jam in the morning.
Halfway through her meal, Chloe couldn't help but ask, "Have you arranged a driver for me?"
Donovan responded, "Sure."
Chloe probed, "Who is it?"
"It's me," Donovan declared.
Chloe was stunned.
