Chapter 385 Chloe was the child of that wicked woman
Once they had a target, things moved fast. Five days later, the assistant gave Donovan the phone number Janet called the most and info about the car owner with the fake license plate. Both pointed to the same person, but this person wasn't the mastermind. The real culprit was likely Pamela.
"Pamela?" Donovan was shocked.
"Yeah. Pamela also gave Barbara a new role as the main villain in 'The First Hotel'. Given Barbara's experience, that's unusual," the assistant said.
"Looks like I need to meet Pamela. Is she in Aurora Isle?" Donovan asked.
"Yes, she's at the Whispering Pines Inn. But be careful, Mr. Blake. The Adams family has deep roots," the assistant warned.
"We won't know unless we try," Donovan replied.
The investigation's results made him happy. Chloe's sudden trip to Verdania wasn't without reason. She cared about her family and Francis but was pressured, making her leave in a hurry, causing Donovan to misunderstand her. Maybe she was trying to protect Donovan and Francis. Plus, the last $5 million investment from Logan was almost gone, and she was scared. And "The Elite" was one of Pamela's main projects. It all added up.
The next day, Donovan showed up outside Pamela's presidential suite at the Whispering Pines Inn. Pamela had just finished her makeup and opened the door to see Donovan.
"Mr. Blake, you've come? Please, come in."
Pamela made Donovan a cup of tea, her expression calm. "I don't know what kind of tea you like, but I like this one, so you'll have to get used to it."
Donovan drank the tea, knowing Pamela wasn't simple.
"I thought you'd find me one day, but not this soon. Your relationship with Chloe doesn't seem as bad as she described," Pamela joked.
"Is that what she said?" Donovan asked.
"Yes, want to hear the recording?" Pamela reached for a recorder.
"No need. To prevent you from retaliating, she went to great lengths. I didn't know before, but now I do. If you touch my people again, just try. I've got high insurance, and any losses will be reported to the police and insurance company. If anything happens, I'll come after you. How do you feel about that?" Donovan leaned closer. "If that doesn't work, I'll go to the media and expose everything you've done. How about that?"
Pamela's smile flickered and then vanished. She leaned back, staring into her tea. If no one knew what she did, she could act freely. But once exposed, she'd be tied down, especially by someone like Donovan.
"Why do you have to do this?" Pamela said. "Chloe is just the daughter of my low-level assistant, Kathy James, from the countryside. She had an ambiguous relationship with Fred, a famous star from the last century. Kathy got Fred drunk and had Chloe after a fling. Back then, having a child out of wedlock was shameful. For her sake, she sent Chloe away. But Kathy stole two of my gemstone rings, one for Chloe and one for herself. She thought she could find Chloe when she had money. Fred was someone I loved, but he was seduced by Kathy, who then had Chloe. Is it wrong for me to seek revenge? At first, Barbara wore the ring, and I took revenge on her.
