Chapter 441 Not Worried About Your Dad
Leaving Oscar's house, Donovan received a text message from Chloe: [How do you know Jeffery?]
Donovan didn't reply.
Chloe had already surmised that Donovan might not respond to her message, or perhaps he seldom checked his messages.
He didn't reply, causing Chloe to feel awkward.
Donovan, holding Francis's hand, walked through the campus of Pearl Peak City University. Donovan felt that this cool atmosphere was something he hadn't experienced in a long time.
The last time he felt it was when he came to Pearl Peak City University with Chloe.
"Dad, you just said Chloe is your wife. Does that mean you've fallen for her?" Francis asked Donovan.
"Yes."
"I knew it, Dad. You don't show it, but you know it in your heart. If you've fallen for her, you should act quickly and let Jeffery know," Francis said excitedly. He added, "Otherwise, I'm really worried about Jeffery. He's a good guy."
"Worried about what?" Donovan asked.
"Worried that he'll get hurt."
"Aren't you worried about me?"
"You're invincible," Francis said proudly.
Donovan chuckled.
The two of them slowly strolled, preparing to head home.
Francis yawned.
"Are you sleepy?" Donovan asked.
"Yeah."
Donovan bent down and picked Francis up.
Francis comfortably lay in Donovan's arms and fell asleep.
Maybe the lights near the faculty building weren't very bright, so they didn't notice a woman nearby.
It was Cynthia.
Cynthia had come downstairs in her pajamas to take out the trash, looking somewhat disheveled.
As Chloe tossed the trash into the bin and began walking back, she caught a voice speaking from behind her.
This voice was etched in her heart. He only said one word, and she recognized it was Donovan.
Instantly, memories of the past flooded Cynthia's mind.
The last time she saw Donovan at Willowbrook College, she had confessed so much to him, but he remained indifferent.
However, just now, she heard him talk to Francis and saw him gently pick Francis up. It was Donovan, the person Cynthia could never seem to reach. Even during her most glamorous moments, he never spared her a second glance. Now, looking disheveled while taking out the trash, he certainly wouldn't notice her.
Cynthia had long known that bringing Chloe to Pearl Peak City University would eventually bring Donovan here too.
She wanted to see his handsome face again, to see his icy expression, something she could never touch in her lifetime.
Sure enough, he came, but not for her, for Chloe.
No matter how turbulent her heart was, she could only pretend to be calm.
The next day, Chloe was eating in the faculty cafeteria and "coincidentally" ran into Cynthia.
"Cynthia," Chloe greeted her warmly.
"Chloe, did Donovan come to the school last night?" Every time Cynthia mentioned "Donovan," she made herself appear very calm, as if he was just an old classmate.
Sure enough, Chloe's hand trembled slightly. "Yeah, maybe. He came to watch the basketball game."
"Oh, but I saw him go to Tranquil Haven Estates last night."
Chloe frowned. "What was he doing at Tranquil Haven Estates? I don't know. We're divorced, so I'm not sure about his situation."
"Why don't you ask him to join us for a meal sometime? He and I are old classmates too," Cynthia said lightly.
Only she knew how many years of unrequited love were hidden beneath that light tone.
"Sure, I'll ask him sometime." Chloe thought. After all, they were old classmates, and Cynthia was married.
Chloe pondered Donovan's visit to Tranquil Haven Estates. She thought, 'Kenneth used to teach at Pearl Peak City University, so he might have a few good friends here. Maybe Donovan went to Tranquil Haven Estates to catch up with old friends.'
