Chapter 322 She's Been Unhappy Lately
"What's wrong? Tell me about it. Keeping everything bottled up inside will only make you feel worse. You look quite worn out lately," Ann said, showing her concern.
Chloe then recounted everything in detail.
She started from the moment she learned that Walter had been burned to death to when she sent Sofia and Logan to check on Walter. Logan relayed what he heard to Chloe, as well as Donovan's "support" for Paisley, and finally, the "closing statement" Donovan showed her.
She told Ann everything, including her suspicions. She felt that Donovan had done something in the closing statement to let Paisley get away unscathed.
Brayden listened quietly.
"Mr. Blake is really something. Knowing what kind of person Paisley is, he still helps her. I'd be mad too if I were you," Ann growling, crossing her arms. "Why should Paisley get away with no responsibility?"
"It's not his fault," Chloe said, holding her milk, remembering his words about using Paisley as a target. That was probably his true intention.
But seeing Paisley so smug still made Chloe very unhappy.
"Chloe, if you're feeling down, just give me a call and we can chat," Brayden impulsively grabbed Chloe's hand and said, "Don't bear all this alone."
He had heard many stories about pregnant women experiencing the loss of loved ones and miscarriages during pregnancy.
"Okay," Chloe said, brushing her hair aside.
"Exactly. Chloe, you have to remember, we're all your friends," Ann said sincerely to Chloe.
Chloe was very touched and said "okay" three times in a row.
"Where are you working now?" Chloe asked Brayden.
"Me? You're worried about me? No matter how bad things get, I won't lose my job. I'm now partnering with Ann again. The old First accounting firm, now Summit Financial Solutions, has been messed up by Carol. I don't even bother looking at it anymore. She's moved out of that building, and I don't know what's going on now."
"Still the same old setup, nothing has changed," Chloe said with a smile.
"Yeah. Chloe, take care of yourself. I'm really worried about you," Brayden said, squeezing Chloe's hand again.
Chloe instinctively pulled her hand away from Brayden's. "I'll take good care of myself, don't worry."
After Brayden and Ann left, Chloe sat alone in the café for a while. Maya came back, and then they went home together.
After yoga in the afternoon, Chloe took a nap. When she woke up, Donovan had already returned.
"Brayden came by?" Donovan asked while taking off his suit.
Chloe was slightly startled. "Did Maya tell you? Ann was here too."
"What did you talk about?"
"Just casual stuff, work-related things."
Donovan didn't say anything, but after getting into bed, he whispered in Chloe's ear, "Don't hang out with him too much. It makes me very angry."
His breath tickled Chloe's ear.
Chloe shook her head and said, "It's not like I invited him over."
He bit Chloe's ear. "If you had invited him, I'd be even angrier."
"Do you want me to be your exclusive possession?" she asked.
"That would be best," Donovan said, turning to kiss Chloe, his hand caressing her belly.
"And what about you?" she asked, "Are you mine alone?"
"I always have been."
Chloe knew he was just saying that.
She had long known about his twisted possessiveness, selfishness, and ruthlessness. It was best not to provoke him.
Chloe didn't say anything. She had been feeling quite unhappy lately.
