Chapter 395 Just Prepared for Me
Pamela's face stayed the same. She laughed loudly. "I am. Ms. Baker, want to see who my family is?"
Pamela looked up at Chloe, studying her closely. It was the first time Pamela had really looked at Chloe—her youth, beauty, height, and noble demeanor.
Chloe regretted her earlier words. She shouldn't have been so impulsive and shared her observations with Pamela. Chloe had said Pamela wasn't her because she didn't have a mole on her ear. Now that Pamela knew, she'd probably fix that.
Chloe thought, 'Maybe she already had the mole removed.'
"And Ms. Baker, I won't go against you and Mr. Blake anymore. Mr. Blake is too powerful. Why would I cause trouble? Here's your mom Kathy's phone number!" Pamela shoved a piece of paper into Chloe's pocket and left.
After she left, Chloe quickly took Francis from Maya's arms. She hadn't seen Francis in a long time and missed him dearly. She pressed her face against his and kissed him for a long time.
Pamela's words kept echoing in Chloe's mind. To Chloe, her only mom was Amelia. When Amelia died, Chloe lost her "mom", too. She had no feelings for her biological mother. But she was curious about Kathy.
Pamela's words weren't trustworthy, but the fact that she had a ring identical to Chloe's showed there was some connection with the Adams and James families.
"Chloe, are you staying this time?" Maya was happy to see Chloe back.
"I still need to finish my studies, but I need to make sure Francis is okay," Chloe said, holding Francis. She didn't need to look at his photos anymore. Francis kept touching her face, curious.
"Go make something good for Chloe to eat," Donovan told Maya. After Maya went to the kitchen, Donovan sat next to Chloe and took the paper from her pocket. It had Kathy's phone number on it. Chloe glanced at it, memorized the number, and pretended not to care. Donovan tore up the paper.
"If you have any issues, discuss them with me," Donovan said. Chloe nodded but doubted discussing things with him. She felt Pamela wouldn't give up easily. It was just her intuition.
"Can you guarantee Francis's safety?" Chloe asked Donovan.
"Why can't I? Are you leaving again?" Donovan leaned back on the sofa, his hand on the backrest.
"I have to finish my studies; I can't quit halfway."
Chloe felt Pamela didn't want her with Donovan. Pamela was ruthless and wouldn't stop easily. Her words about not going against Donovan were untrustworthy. Francis going missing was proof. Chloe's background must be related to the Adams family; otherwise, it wouldn't have alarmed Pamela.
Today's events left Chloe confused. She understood why Donovan tore up the paper. He thought Pamela was trying to entangle her, dragging Chloe into an irreversible relationship, so he tore up Kathy's number. But Chloe had memorized it.
Soon, Maya brought out Chloe's favorite dishes.
"Such a feast?" Chloe, still shaken, suddenly felt very close to Maya.
"Mr. Blake said you didn't eat well outside," Maya said. "It's rare for you to come back, so you should have something good to eat."
Chloe laughed. "Who said I didn't eat well?"
"Does eating well include instant noodles?" Donovan pulled out a chair and sat next to Chloe.
"I don't eat instant noodles. I was..." Chloe said while eating.
"It just cooked for me?" Donovan asked.
"I didn't say that," Chloe retorted. But she thought, 'That bowl of instant noodles was probably the worst meal he ever had, even though I put all my effort into it. But instant noodles are still not better than dishes.'
