Chapter 73 - June and Xiaohua

After work, Donovan called Sofia into his office.

Sofia was filled with anxiety; this was her first time being summoned into Donovan's office.

She knew that Donovan calling her must be related to Chloe.

Sofia cautiously looked at Donovan from a distance, scared and trembling. She couldn't understand how Chloe could sleep with this man every day.

"Chloe saw Brayden on Saturday, right?" Sure enough, Donovan's first words were about Chloe.

At this moment, Sofia felt as if she was sitting on a "tiger stool," and Donovan was the lie detector. She didn't dare to hide anything.

She truthfully recounted the incident of seeing Brayden at the bookstore that day, and how Brayden took them to his accounting firm. Chloe was excited about the elite-like work environment, and Brayden said they were still hiring assistants, so Chloe could apply.

"He only gave her a book? No notes?" Donovan asked Sofia.

"Yes, Brayden said he would give her the notes in a few days."

"I see." Donovan frowned once again, indicating that besides what Sofia mentioned, they must have had private meetings as well.

Mr. Blake had advised Chloe for a long time, saying that it was difficult to find a job and asked her to think it over. But since she was fifteen years old, she had always longed for that kind of working environment.

Besides, she felt uncomfortable with how our group always kept an eye on her," Sofia said, trying to praise herself while also pointing out that Chloe wanted to work at a firm not because of Brayden.

"What did she say?" Donovan furrowed his brows slightly.

"What?"

"The rumors," Donovan clarified.

"Oh, yes. Especially since it was rumored that you were involved with her. The company scrutinizes her every move, praising her when things go well and criticizing her when they don't. Chloe has experienced it firsthand. She wants to establish her position in the company based on her own abilities, not by relying on this," Sofia said, trying to position Chloe as a "professional woman," emphasizing that she wasn't pursuing other people's attractiveness.

"Go ahead. But don't tell Chloe about today's matter."

"I definitely won't!" Sofia thought, If this causes conflict between the two of you again, who will take the blame?

Sofia let out a long sigh and left.

In the afternoon, the HR department issued new "office regulations," making slight adjustments to the original content. A new clause was added: colleagues should care for each other and spreading rumors is prohibited. A $200 fine for each rumor.

Seeing this new regulation, the people in the office whispered among themselves, saying that Mr. Blake had specially tailored it for Chloe's miscarriage incident.

"Hush, don't spread rumors. We'll lose $200."

The other person slapped their own mouth and said, "Look at me and my big mouth."

Chloe also felt that this clause seemed custom-made for her.

After work, Chloe had some unfinished accounts, so she let Donovan leave first.

At eight o'clock, Chloe stretched and finished her work.

The office was empty now, very quiet. Chloe opened the job application form Brayden had given her and started filling it out.

It took Chloe until nine o'clock to finish multiple pages of the form. She sent it to Brayden.

Chloe took a taxi back to Blake's family. She was exhausted and threw her bag and phone on the bed before heading to the bathroom.

As soon as her phone hit the bed, it rang several times.

Donovan casually glanced over and saw two words: "Brayden."

Brayden again!

Chloe hadn't locked her phone yet, so he opened it. Brayden had sent her several voice messages on WhatsApp, and on top of those messages was Chloe's job application form.

She didn't come back all night, and she spent the whole time doing this at the company!

No one can rival her ability to secretly handle things!

Donovan remained calm and went downstairs to make a phone call.
