Chapter 518 Playful Flirtation

The way Donovan just spoke felt like a blast from the past. It was as if they were back to those days when he was the big-shot CEO and she was just his employee.

Chloe felt a lot better knowing he had things under control.

She was twirling a pen in her hand, not really paying attention, and suddenly, it flew off the table. She looked around and saw it had landed by Donovan's feet.

Donovan noticed the pen too. He glanced at Chloe, curious if she'd come over to grab it.

Chloe just sat up straight, arms on the table, clearly not planning to get it herself.

So, Donovan bent down, picked it up, and handed it to her.

He was sitting pretty close to her desk on a single sofa.

Chloe reached out to take the pen, but Donovan, like he was pulling a magic trick, yanked it back and grabbed her wrist, pulling her towards him.

She ended up falling onto him. She tried to pull away, but Donovan was laughing. "Now that you're here, there's no getting away."

Chloe stopped struggling. Her mood lifted, probably just because Donovan was there. She didn't look at him.

"Why were you crying?" he asked, holding her close.

A few days ago, Chloe saw a question online:[If you get divorced, what would you do if your ex-husband wants to have sex with you?]

And a lot of people agreed with the comment:

[It was just a physical thing, and if you hadn't found someone else, just go for it. Once or a hundred times didn't make a difference.]

At that time, Chloe had just come back from Maple Valley and had just slept with him. Seeing that question, she couldn't help but relate and read all the replies.

Chloe felt her tears were kind of inexplicable.

She looked utterly helpless as a little kitten. Clinging tightly to Donovan's neck,  she was sitting so precariously.

"This time you're so compliant, are you trying to secure priority?" he asked, looking down at her.

"What priority?" Chloe asked, surprised.

"I knew Charles was lying. How could someone like you bring up the issue of priority? Charles said that if I were to get married, you wanted priority. Is that true?" Donovan looked at her, searching her eyes.

Chloe was silent for a moment, thinking, 'Charles must be lying to Donovan to push our relationship.'

Plus, Charles had told her that the marriage ad was arranged by someone else, and Donovan didn't know about it. So, there was no issue of priority. Maybe Donovan hadn't even thought about getting married yet. She really wanted Francis, but she was also scared of being with Donovan.

Who wants to be with a murderer?

Who wouldn't be scared if their partner always had a knife?

"What I meant was, if you don't give me Francis, I want to secure priority. Of course, if you're willing to lend me some money, that would be even better," Chloe said.

Donovan laughed. "Your beauty trap might work on me, but if you want to truely impress me, you need to put in more effort in bed, okay?"

Donovan's thumb brushed across Chloe's lips as he spoke.

Mentioning bed, Chloe didn't want to continue. She changed the subject and asked, "When are you leaving?"

"When do you want me to leave?" he replied with a hint of sarcasm.

"It might snow heavily. The weather forecast mentioned it a few days ago," Chloe said, thinking, 'I need to find a way to keep Francis. He can do whatever he wants, and the New East Group probably can't do without him.'

Neither of them probably expected that at this moment, the atmosphere between them was extremely charged, like the bad boy and the seductress they used to be. They exchanged flirtatious words, and the next step in this tension would be making love. But one was being proactive, and the other was playing hard to get, turning it into a playful tease.
