Chapter 489 You're Not Buying a House?

Chloe brushed it off, but Cynthia couldn't stop thinking about it, wondering when Donovan would show up.

After class, Chloe left the room. Despite a couple of annoying WhatsApp messages, her lecture went off without a hitch and got top marks.

Cynthia took the recommendation form home, Donovan's message about coming to Pearl Peak City tomorrow replaying in her mind. She really wanted to see Donovan again. But even if he did come, he might not visit Jake. After all, Jake wasn't his biological kid and had no ties to him.

Cynthia even started flipping a coin, getting excited when it landed on heads and anxious when it was tails. Most of the time, she was just anxious, knowing Donovan was only coming because of Jake, even if he did visit.

Right then, Cynthia watched Jake playing with his building blocks and started making plans.

The next morning, after a meeting at Stellar Corp, Donovan showed up at Chloe's place in Willow Grove Estates. Chloe, wearing glasses and working on a paper, opened the door. Seeing Donovan, she asked coldly, "Where's Francis?"

"Is Francis the only one you care about?" Donovan snapped, clearly annoyed.

Chloe lowered her gaze. "Aren't you standing right here? Do you need to ask where you are as well?"

"He's at the company. Charles is looking after him for a few days," Donovan replied.

"How many days are a few days?" Chloe pressed.

"Depends on the situation. Worried about Francis?" Donovan was getting impatient with her questions.

Chloe's tense heart relaxed a bit. She thought, 'With so many people at the company, even if Pamela wants to harm Francis, it won't be easy. Hopefully, Charles is reliable.'

She let Donovan in.

"Still in pain?" Donovan asked once inside.

"Do you think I ignored your message because I didn't see it?" Chloe's anger flared up, remembering how he embarrassed her during class.

"So, are you? In pain but too embarrassed to say?" Donovan pulled out a cigarette.

Chloe snatched it away. "No smoking in my house."

Donovan looked at her. "You have a lot of rules."

Unmoved, Chloe went to put the cigarette away. Donovan just smiled. "What are you here for this time?" she asked.

"I've got a few days of meetings at Stellar Corp. Timothy didn't tell you, so I need to report to you?" Donovan shot back.

"I don't get involved in your company stuff." Chloe returned and tried to get back to her work. She hated being interrupted while writing.

Donovan noticed the house was cluttered with boxes. It felt smaller than last time. He frowned, wondering how anyone could live in such a cramped space.

"Didn't you put the snacks in the fridge?" he asked.

Chloe, back at her desk, adjusted her glasses. "Fridge is too small."

"Planning to get a new fridge?" he asked.

Chloe adjusted her glasses again. "House is too small for a big fridge."

"Thinking about getting a new house?" he pressed.

Chloe's thoughts drifted back to the idea of a new house. "What are you getting at?"

"You're not buying a house?" Donovan said, tidying up the snack boxes.
