Chapter 504 Photos

Back in the day, Cynthia couldn't get it done on her own, but now with Jake around, she could ask him to stay for the dinner like a breeze.

Last time, to make Jake sick, Cynthia yanked off all his clothes in the middle of the night, took away his blankets, and locked his door. She ignored his cries and refused to give him any clothes. She thought, 'Jake's not my real kid anyway, just the son of a murderer. I don't expect him to be grateful in the future, so I might as well use him now.'

This time, even though she said Jake accidentally dialed Donovan's number, it was actually her idea. Thanks to Jake, Cynthia had more chances to interact with Donovan, and they got closer.

Later, Donovan showed up at Cynthia's place. As soon as Jake saw him, he hugged his leg and kept calling him "Daddy."

"I'm not your daddy, got it?" Donovan was super annoyed by Jake calling him "Daddy."

Jake looked at Cynthia. Cynthia said, "Be good, Donovan's not your daddy."

"I was just about to go grocery shopping, wanna come along?" Cynthia asked.

Jake kept holding Donovan's hand. "Come with us, Uncle Donovan, come with us."

"I might not stay for dinner, but let's go downstairs and take a walk. Jake's been cooped up inside for too long," Donovan said.

Even though Cynthia was a bit bummed by the news that he might change his mind, she still said cheerfully, "Alright, let's go to the garden downstairs."

The three of them headed to the garden. To anyone who didn't know them, they looked like a family. Holding Donovan's hand, Jake wanted to pick flowers for Cynthia. But it was winter, and there weren't many flowers in the park, so he picked a pretty leaf and gave it to Cynthia instead.

"Wearing a leaf? You're just making me look silly," Cynthia said, looking at Jake with a loving expression.

"Mom looks pretty with it," Jake said.

Cynthia didn't seem to believe Jake and asked Donovan, "Do I look good?"

"Not bad," Donovan replied.

"Mr. Blake, what are you doing here?" Jeffery's voice came from beside Donovan.

Donovan looked up and saw Jeffery chatting with Barbara. Donovan didn't know what they were talking about, and Jeffery was holding a basketball.

Earlier, on his way to the gym, Jeffery ran into Barbara, and she chatted with him for a while. Barbara even cried, saying she didn't know what to do now since no production crews were hiring her for acting roles.

"Come over here," Donovan said, frowning slightly, and called Jeffery over.

Barbara thought, 'Donovan must be telling Jeffery to stay away from me. If you don't let me be happy, you won't be happy either.'

"Did Chloe tell you?" Donovan asked Jeffery.

"Tell me what?" Jeffery asked.

"Not to get too close to Barbara?" Donovan said.

"Not yet, her class is tomorrow, and she hasn't contacted me privately," Jeffery said.

"Barbara's trouble, you should stay away from her."

"But why? Isn't she Chloe's cousin?" Jeffery asked.

Jake came over and hugged Donovan's leg again, and Donovan's attention shifted back to Cynthia.

Jeffery went back to Barbara.

"What did he say to you?" Barbara asked.

"Nothing much, just about my mom. Barbara, I'm gonna play basketball now," Jeffery said.

"Okay," Barbara was very disappointed.

After Jeffery left, Barbara didn't leave right away. She hid in a spot, watching Donovan and Cynthia, ready to snap a picture of the two looking very close and send it to Chloe.

"I need to go," Donovan said, glancing at his watch.

Cynthia, holding Jake's hand, seemed to look at Donovan's watch too. "What time is it now?"

"A little after four," Donovan replied. "I have something to do tonight, and I need to go to my grandpa's house. I transferred the money to your card, did you get it?"

"I got it. Thanks, Donovan."

From Barbara's angle, it looked like they were kissing. She quickly took several high-definition photos of them, and then took another photo of them taking care of Jake together, looking like a happy family of three.

Barbara sent all these photos to Chloe's old phone.
