Chapter 119 I Am the CEO's Wife
"In our office, someone's authentic bag has been switched with a fake one!" someone remarked sarcastically. After all, Chloe's rise to success had made her many enemies in the office.
Chloe was sitting at her computer doing the accounts, but she was aware of what had just happened in the office. She realized that Ellie's bag was also a Chanel bag, and it was identical to hers.
"Stop making a fuss. She's the CEO's wife. What do you think you can achieve by making trouble for her?" someone said.
"I've heard that she's been staying in the dormitory these past few days and she hasn’t been treated well. And when she encountered difficulties, she made things even more difficult for others."
"Take a look at the bag, Chloe. Ellie's bag has been switched, and your bag is exactly the same as hers," someone started speaking up for Ellie. After all, compared to Chloe, they were all weak, especially Ellie. She had been driven out of the company by Chloe and had finally come back, only to have her bag switched again.
Resentment toward the rich made everyone lean toward supporting the weak.
"Why would you suspect me of switching Ellie's bag?" Chloe replied calmly. "If it was me, would I be so blatant about it?"
"Who knows? Thieves often accuse others of stealing," her colleagues responded.
More colleagues who had gone out for lunch started coming back, and they were all watching the commotion.
"If it turns out my bag is not the same as hers, who will take responsibility for this?" Chloe raised another question.
No one dared to speak anymore.
Chloe knew exactly how Jacob had schemed against her. Perhaps he had conspired with Ellie and had her take photos of her real bag in advance, capturing the tags. Then Ellie had bought a fake bag and Jacob had delivered Ellie's real bag to Chloe. However, all the evidence of the sale, like receipts, was with Ellie. So when Chloe held Ellie's bag, she had no receipts, leaving her unable to defend herself.
But when did Jacob conspire with Ellie?
Luckily, Chloe was prepared in advance.
James returned and saw everyone standing around. He asked his colleagues what had happened.
He told his colleagues to get back to work and then whispered to Chloe, "Chloe, look, $35,000 is no small amount. Please open the bag so we can resolve the situation, okay? After all, the innocent have nothing to fear."
Chloe remained unmoved. "Mr. Turner, you don't believe me either?"
She knew that something would eventually happen between Ellie and her now that they were in the same office.
She had already despised the finance department, and now, she had even less attachment to it. Many people had kicked her when she was down, and many of them were enjoying the show. Even the financial director was no exception.
"I understand, but Chloe, you see..." James certainly hoped that Chloe would get in trouble.
Chloe came from a humble background, and even though she had married the CEO, she couldn't change her bad habits. She probably hadn't had much in the past, so she wanted to take something good for herself now when she saw it.
Compared to Chloe, James actually preferred Ellie. Now that Chloe was suspected of being a "thief," it was likely that Donovan wouldn't regard her highly either. Even if it was eventually proven not to be true, a woman who was once suspected of being a "thief" would probably leave a bad impression on Donovan.
The audit department was a very important department, and Donovan would definitely not allow a girl who had been suspected to be a "thief" to enter.
In theory, the office shouldn't be a place to solve this kind of dispute, but $35,000 was not a small number. Also, James wanted to see something happen to Chloe. Since Chloe started working, she had always dressed plainly and carried ordinary bags. It was evident that Donovan hadn't invested much in Chloe. So, this Chanel bag was definitely not authentic. James became even more certain when he thought about it.
"I am the CEO's wife!" Chloe used her trump card.
At this moment, the colleagues murmurs’ could be heard again. "Being the CEO's wife is no big deal."
"I just can't stand her arrogant attitude."
"Well then, I'll have to get the CEO involved," James said and went upstairs.
He wanted Donovan to see that his wife was a "thief."
James had seen Ellie's shopping receipt and the pictures of the bag from before. He was very confident that the truth would be revealed.
