Chapter 684 Relatives
"Why are you here?" Chloe asked Derek in surprise when she saw him carrying a handbag.
To be honest, Chloe still felt a bit uncomfortable and awkward transitioning from being so close with Derek to now being like siblings.
"I wanted to see her. And also to see you, and..." Derek glanced at Donovan, "to see Donovan." After saying that, Derek lowered his head.
"Almost forgot, we're family now," Donovan joked.
Chloe suddenly realized that the "her" Derek mentioned must be Pamela.
After all, Pamela was Derek's biological mother.
"Okay, sure," Chloe said. "I'll have Maya arrange a room for you. You can take a shower first."
With that, Maya led Derek to the room, and both kids followed him. He had brought some goodies for the kids. Although Derek didn't know who the other child was, he didn't feel comfortable asking in front of Francis.
Just as the family was about to settle down, another person arrived—Dylan.
Dylan hadn't been to the Blake Mansion in a long time. Every time he came, he seemed to be seeking something from Donovan, always acting subservient.
"Mr. Blake," Dylan said, sitting on the sofa opposite Donovan.
"What is it?" Donovan's tone was not warm, and he even seemed a bit resistant to Dylan.
"Well, I heard from Carol that you have two kids, and one of them is adopted. I wanted to ask if you could let the Perez family adopt the one that's adopted?" Dylan asked humbly.
Last night, Carol and Brayden had explained the situation to Dylan, telling him that Chloe and Donovan had two kids and that Jake didn't leave a good impression on Chloe. Dylan had heard about Janet's situation before. He knew that Jake was supposedly Janet's nephew. After Janet went to prison, Donovan had arranged for someone to adopt Jake, but when that person had an accident, Donovan had no choice but to take Jake in.
Since Jake wasn't a child they had actively chosen to adopt, and given that Janet was Chloe's rival, Dylan believed that Donovan wouldn't have any affection for Jake, and neither would Chloe. The child might have caused them a lot of trouble.
Dylan even thought that if he offered to adopt Jake, Donovan would be pleased.
Dylan also wanted his biological grandson, but since he and Virgil were old friends, suggesting that Brayden have a child with another woman was a bad idea. He agreed to adopt a child and let Carol raise him.
Carol didn't want to touch on this topic herself, so she sent Dylan to talk to Donovan.
When Chloe heard that Dylan wanted to adopt Jake, she was furious and thought, 'Why is Carol always against me?'
"No," Donovan said, understanding Chloe's feelings and having his thoughts. If Carol adopted Jake, she might raise him to be hostile towards Chloe. Chloe had just started to bond with Jake, so there was no way he would give Jake to Dylan.
Donovan's response made Chloe very happy, and she squeezed Donovan's hand.
It also made Dylan very embarrassed. Donovan's answer was not what he had expected.
"Mr. Blake, if we adopt this child, we won't treat him poorly. Please reconsider," Dylan said.
"No. Don't even think about it," Donovan said firmly.
"Alright, I'll be going then," Dylan said, knowing it was useless to say more. He stood up to leave.
At that moment, a door on the first floor opened, and someone walked out. The person saw Dylan, paused for a moment, and then continued to the bathroom to freshen up.
