Chapter 484 Slept Through the Night

Chloe stepped out of Jane's office and into the hallway when Donovan asked, "What's wrong with you?"

"See for yourself." Chloe handed him the diagnosis report, her tone icy. "Go get the meds."

"Tear?" Donovan read aloud, smirking. "How'd you manage to get a tear?"

Chloe stayed quiet, thinking how he could still joke around after three years.

Donovan grabbed a box of ointment from the ward for Chloe, to be applied twice a day.

"Do I have to put it on for you?" Donovan teased in the car. "Can't see where the wound is?"

"No need. I'm heading back to Pearl Peak City this afternoon or tomorrow. Got classes and research to prep for. Busy." Chloe replied coldly.

"So soon? Three years apart, one night together, and now this?" Donovan was in a good mood, speaking gently and even joking with her.

But Chloe wasn't in the mood. She thought, Three years ago, she started to have feelings for Donovan and married him. But as she got to know him, she began to doubt his actions and character.

Love started with looks, was deepened by talent, and was sustained by character. Donovan excelled in the first two, almost making her lose her mind. But in the last aspect, she had deep doubts. Even if he crossed the line for her, she couldn't forgive him. Paisley and Janet, no matter how guilty, didn't need him to punish them. And Amelia's record wasn't for her; it was for Gordon. So, she could be Francis's mom but not Donovan's wife.

When they got home, Chloe took the ointment upstairs. The instructions read: [Apply to the affected area twice daily.]

Chloe could feel where the affected area was, even if she couldn't see it. She went to the bathroom, and just as she was about to apply the ointment after undressing, Donovan walked in. Chloe was a bit stunned.

"Why are you here?" She quickly pulled up her pants and asked.

"Why can't I come into a room in my own house?" he replied.

Chloe grabbed the ointment and left. Donovan's gaze lingered on her like a predator eyeing its prey. "When are you heading back to Pearl Peak City?"

Chloe glanced at her watch. It was past four. If she left this afternoon, it would be dark by the time she got to school. "By tomorrow morning at the latest. I have a lot of work at school. Can't afford to lose this job."

"I never wanted you to lose your job. What are you thinking?" Donovan said.

Chloe was speechless, a bit scared that Donovan would keep her there, imprison her, just like when she worked at New East Group, where he decided whether she went to work or not. So she emphasized the importance of her job. Besides, she no longer worked at New East Group and didn't have a contractual marriage anymore. It wouldn't be easy for him to control her.

After Donovan went downstairs, Chloe finally applied the ointment herself. She could hear Donovan making phone calls downstairs, but she couldn't make out what he was saying.

At night, Donovan didn't do anything to Chloe; her physical condition didn't allow it.

However, Chloe remembered Jane's words about someone inquiring about her blood type at the hospital. She guessed it might be Pamela. She knew she didn't have the capability to find out who it was, but Donovan might be able to.

"Can you help me look into something?" Chloe asked, lying on the bed.

Next to her, Donovan casually turned a page of his book. "What?"

"Today, Jane told me someone went to the hospital to check my medical records. I don't know who it was. Can you help me find out?" Chloe asked.

"Call me 'hubby'" He continued reading. It seemed that as long as Chloe called him "hubby," this matter would be a non-issue for him.

Chloe turned her face away. "Forget it. You probably can't find out anyway."

With that, Chloe snuggled into the blanket and went to sleep.
