Chapter 686 About to Die

Pamela just tilted her head without speaking. She didn't want Fred to know she wasn't the real Pamela. If Fred found out, who knows how disappointed he would be? What would his reaction be if he knew about the things Pamela had done in the past? Pamela didn't dare to think about it.

In this life, she only loved Fred in her heart. But Fred made Pamela hate him because, in his heart, there was always the shadow of Paula. Pamela didn't even dare to let Fred know she was a stand-in.

She didn't answer Derek's question, stood up, and returned to her cell.

Derek was left alone, sitting there in a daze. Before long, tears streamed down his face.

Derek came out of the prison and ran into someone at the door. He didn't have the mind to see who it was, but that person took a few more glances at him.

It was Barbara. Barbara had been released.

She argued at the police station that she and Jacob were not kidnapping Francis; they were just taking the child out to play. She showed the police photos of Jacob and Francis playing at the amusement park. They hadn't mistreated Francis. As Francis's relatives, they wouldn't harm him. The issue of asking Chloe for the password was just a coincidence. In the end, the court released her and Jacob due to insufficient evidence.

Barbara had just been released and came to see Pamela.

After all, Pamela was once her boss, and Barbara's future still depended on Pamela. Barbara came to see what crime Pamela had committed. If it were minor, she might be released soon; if it were serious, she might be in for a long time. The length of Pamela's stay would determine how Barbara would treat her in the future and whether she needed to curry favor with her.

At the door, she saw Derek. Barbara recognized Derek; he was the one in the photo with Chloe, Neil's son. Seeing him come out dejectedly, Barbara was slightly stunned.

When she saw Pamela, Barbara was extremely cautious. She asked Pamela what she had done.

Pamela had an inscrutable smile on her face, "You're out? I didn't do anything. The police made a mistake. It's all Chloe's doing. Paula's child, really!"

Pamela's face was full of hatred. She never thought it was her fault for harming Bradley and Paula. She didn't think it was her fault for sending someone to kill Paisley. She always believed it was Chloe's fault. It was Chloe who brought up the old matter, leading the police to discover her. She hadn't taken any measures against Chloe's child, thinking she was too soft-hearted. Now that she was in prison, she had to rely on an outside hand to make Chloe suffer. Donovan was too difficult to deal with, and killing Chloe would be too easy. The only way was to kill Chloe's child, which would likely drive Chloe insane for the rest of her life.

But Barbara was very shrewd. She was still the same, but Pamela was no longer the same Pamela. She had fallen and lost her former arrogance and power, even though she still ordered Barbara around.

Barbara decided not to listen to Pamela, but she responded perfunctorily, "Ms. Adams, I just got out of prison. Even if I were to do this, shouldn't I take it slow?"

Pamela, being very astute, knew her current situation posed no threat to Barbara. She spoke directly, "Do you think there's nothing to hold you back now?"

Barbara just smiled, her disdain obvious.

"If you can help take care of Chloe's child, there will be greater benefits for you later. Do you think I'm the only one?" Pamela said.

Pamela's words did make Barbara a bit scared. To leave herself some room, she said, "Let me think about it. To kill Chloe's child, we need a foolproof plan."

"Hope you will consider it!" Pamela said, then turned back to her cell.

Barbara didn't take Pamela's words to heart at all. Since there wasn't even a clue from Pamela, why would she risk killing Chloe's child? It was too risky and could be fatal.
