Chapter 307 Grandma Morgan Is Gone
When Chloe woke up, she was startled to find Donovan gone, even though he went to sleep late.
After breakfast, Chloe went to the office.
She spent the entire morning sorting out materials for NexInnovate Technologies. Additionally, she added the relevant contact from the company on WhatsApp to discuss some matters.
The person was currently working with the crew of "The Aristocrats" and handling accounts. As NexInnovate Technologies had sponsored the filming of the show, Chloe needed to have a meeting with them.
"Ms. Baker, could you come to see me? I have to oversee things on-site and can't get away. Our company has booked an entire floor at the Whispering Pines Inn for the 'The Aristocrats' crew, and I do the accounts there every day."
Chloe thought, 'This matter can't be delayed, so I had to go.'
"Chloe, if you're going, I'll accompany you. If anything happens, I can't bear the responsibility," Victoria said. "NexInnovate Technologies Company is a big project; I should also meet the person in charge."
So, Chloe and Victoria went to the first floor of the Whispering Pines Inn in Susan's car, opposite the "The Aristocrats" crew.
Unexpectedly, just as they turned into the corridor, Chloe heard someone at a room door saying, "Ms. Morgan, I'm sorry, but we feel that your appearance isn't quite the right fit for this role. We'll need to find a replacement."
"Why?" Although the voice came from inside the room and Chloe couldn't see the person, she immediately recognized it as Barbara's voice.
"No particular reason, your image just doesn't fit the role," the other person said.
Chloe's brow furrowed in thought. 'I just got here and caught in the crossfire of Barbara's misfortune. Barbara is always proud. She'll hate me for sure.'
The financial director of NexInnovate Technologies Company was staying in the room next to Barbara's. Once inside, the three women began discussing the accounts.
Chloe didn't continue to dwell on Barbara's situation.
However, when she and Victoria were leaving, they saw Barbara dragging her suitcase out.
Barbara gave Chloe a vicious look as Chloe witnessed this embarrassing situation.
"Just you wait!" Barbara spat out these words before she stormed off.
"Did you provoke her?" Victoria asked.
"Utterly baffling." Chloe didn't understand what was wrong with Barbara.
She and Victoria returned and resumed their busy work.
They were busy for several days.
Her days of "feeding" were finally over. Donovan had his bandages removed and was now moving about freely.
Chloe was very happy.
Donovan looked at her coldly. "Are you happy because I'm better, or because you're finally free?"
"Of course, I'm happy because you're better," Chloe replied with a smile.
Her relationship with Donovan was improving, as they both knew they were the babies' parents.
One day, Chloe received a call from Betty.
"Chloe, your grandmother passed away."
Chloe knew Grandma Morgan was old, and this day would come sooner or later.
Although she wasn't too surprised, she was still deeply affected, as Grandma Morgan was Amelia's closest relative.
Moreover, with the continuous loss of family members this year, Chloe began to question life.
"How did Grandma pass away?" Chloe asked.
"Your grandmother...," Betty hesitated, "she was burned to death."
"Burned to death?" Chloe was even more astonished.
'How could it be? There was no fire in my grandmas room, and she wouldn't have set a fire herself.' Chloe didn't have deep feelings for Grandma Morgan, but Grandma Morgan was still Amelia's relative.
"Chloe, will you attend your grandmother's funeral?" Betty asked.
"I will," Chloe replied.
