Chapter 393 You are Obedient but Reluctant

Donovan noticed Chloe's downcast expression.

"Is there anything you can't get?" Chloe asked, feeling a bit defeated. All her efforts seemed pointless.

"You're giving me too much credit," Donovan replied with a smile.

Donovan was a skilled driver, knowing Verdania's streets like the back of his hand, unlike Chloe, who felt lost there. For a moment, she felt like a joke next to him.

He even bought her a scarf from a cute little store. It was brown, thickly woven, with a bear pattern, and it cost just over eighty bucks. Chloe loved it and kept checking herself out in the mirror.

Donovan found it odd. He didn't understand why she like something so childish. She was an adult, after all.

After they bought the scarf, it got dark, and they drove back. Chloe kept admiring the scarf around her neck, clearly thrilled. Donovan just couldn't get it.

They grabbed dinner and got home by eight. When Wade opened the door, he noticed the scarf and asked, "Did your boyfriend get that for you?"

"What are you talking about?" Chloe shot back, but she secretly liked the term "boyfriend". The scarf felt more personal than the house and money Donovan had given her before.

Chloe checked the clock, excited to see Francis.

"Francis usually finishes breakfast around nine, then Helen takes him out. You can come over and mess around with me after that," Donovan, lying on the bed, said to Chloe, who was at the desk.

"We might miss the time," Chloe said, annoyed. 'Why is he always in the mood to fuck?' She wanted to see Francis, but he only wanted to fool around.

"I won't miss it, or you'll miss your video call with Francis," Donovan frighten her.

Chloe felt rebellious but had no choice. She threw her pen down and got on the bed.

"You are a good girl, even if you clearly don't want to be," Donovan teased, holding her close.

Chloe was passive at first but soon got into it, her body heating up and her eyes misty.

In the middle of their moment, Donovan's phone rang. He didn't want to answer, but Chloe saw it was Maya.

"Answer it!" Chloe urged, worried about Francis.

Reluctantly, Donovan answered the video call. "Hello," he said, annoyed, leaning against the headboard.

"Mr. Blake, something's wrong. Francis is missing," Maya said urgently.

"What?" Donovan shot up. "What happened?"

Chloe heard it, too, and started hitting Donovan. "It's all your fault! I could've called him an hour ago!" she yelled, panicking. "Call the police."

She suspected it was Pamela's people. Chloe had worried that Donovan coming to Verdania would provoke them, but he had been so confident. Now, it was bad. They had taken Francis!
