Chapter 80 Why are you staring at me?
Donovan returned to bed to read, while Chloe sat at her desk.
Chloe suddenly felt that they both loved to read so much, truly a diligent and studious couple.
"How come you don't come to bed?" Donovan asked her.
"It's too comfortable lying in bed for too long, and then I won't feel like doing laundry," Chloe said, feeling sorry for herself for having to do Donovan's laundry.
"Working hard on doing laundry, commendable effort," Donovan turned a page of his book and said to Chloe.
The arrangement of the writing desk in the bedroom was similar to that at her grandfather's house, Chloe's position was with her back facing Donovan.
Sometimes Chloe would hear Donovan flipping through the book quickly, finishing a page in no time, but sometimes he would be slow, not turning a page for a long time. Whenever he didn't turn the page, Chloe would feel a bit suspicious in her heart: What's wrong with him? Why isn't he turning the page? Is he asleep?
Chloe would turn her head to take a look.
This happened several times in a row.
Until Chloe turned her head again and met Donovan's gaze.
"Why are you staring at me?" Donovan lifted his eyes and asked her, catching Chloe in the act.
Caught off guard, Chloe had nothing to say, so she quickly replied, "I'm going to do the laundry," before hurrying off to the bathroom.
Doing laundry was a piece of cake for Chloe, she had been doing her own laundry since elementary school, and even in college, she didn't use a washing machine because she thought it was expensive and couldn't clean well. Washing a shirt was a breeze for her.
She finished quickly, without wringing it out, afraid of wringing it out for Donovan and breaking it, so she just left it dripping in the bathroom and then took it to the balcony to dry.
His clothes were as precious as he was.
When Chloe got on the bed, her hands were red and tender. She unintentionally said, "You looked really good in that shirt you just wore."
"Really?" Donovan said lightly.
"Yes, dark blue, gray, and black, all of them look good on you," Chloe's mind flashed images of him wearing these colors, incredibly handsome. "Especially that one time when you were wearing a dark gray shirt, several female colleagues in our office discussed it for a long time, almost wanting to devour you."
"Is that so?" Donovan's tone remained unchanged, "In that case, get me a few more."
Chloe just wanted to compliment Donovan, after all, both men and women liked to hear nice things. Donovan had a better temper, and she suffered a bit "punishment" at night. But she didn't expect that lifting a stone and hitting herself in the foot.
"Not willing?" Donovan glanced at Chloe.
Chloe forced a smile, "Willing, willing. Why wouldn't I? I'll come back a little late tomorrow night, I'll go shopping with Sofia at the New East Group mall, and then I'll come back with a shirt for you, okay? Or, maybe I'll just stay in the dormitory tomorrow?"
"Whatever."
Chloe didn't expect Donovan to agree so easily, she was very delighted.
The next day at work, she messaged Sofia that they would go shopping together in the evening and stay in the dormitory.
"I don't care about Mr. Blake," Sofia asked in surprise.
"He doesn't care about me either," Chloe replied happily.
But why did Sofia feel a little strange?
But she couldn't pinpoint exactly what was strange.
Just after work in the afternoon, Chloe and Sofia had made plans to go to the New East Group mall for dinner and shopping. Chloe felt like a bird that had been locked up, finally seeing the sky, and the two of them chatted and laughed.
The New East Group mall was the most high-end mall in Maple Valley, but after browsing a few stores, Chloe felt a bit discouraged. The shirts here cost tens of thousands of dollars each, and Donovan even asked her to buy "a few." Chloe couldn't bear to buy even one, let alone "a few."
"Buy them, it's his money," Sofia said.
"Even though it's his money, you can't just buy things casually because you have money," Chloe said.
"You're right, it's all your family's money," Sofia said.
"Stop it," Chloe said. Sofia still didn't know that Donovan's wealth had nothing to do with Chloe.
The two of them browsed through several stores, feeling a bit overwhelmed and just about to go downstairs to check out cosmetics. Sofia wanted to buy a toner and Chloe wanted to buy a set of face masks.
When they were looking at cosmetics, there suddenly became a crowd of people in the first-floor lobby. Many people flocked in.
Chloe and Sofia looked over and saw Paisley walking in, followed by many bodyguards. She must be here for an event, after all, the New East Group mall was so high-end.
Chloe couldn't help but feel annoyed when she saw Paisley. "Let's go, let's keep looking at shirts."
Little did she know, as soon as Chloe got on the elevator, she received a WhatsApp message from Paisley: [Chloe, is that you? I just saw someone who looked a lot like you.]
Chloe didn't reply.
Although she was looking at shirts, she was still anxious in her heart. She estimated that Paisley had seen her and was starting to scheme.
Sure enough, as soon as Chloe came out of a store, Paisley caught up with her. "Buying shirts for Donovan?"
"Ms. Torres, is the event over?" Chloe asked.
"Yes. Speaking of which, I still have several shirts that I bought for Donovan. There are four or five of them. Since Miss Chloe is picking out shirts for Donovan, why not take these from me?" Paisley said.
Chloe slightly furrowed her eyebrows, thinking to herself: Why is Paisley so childish?
"Sure, these shirts are quite expensive here," Chloe said with a smile. "He even asked me to buy him a few, but I don't want to buy any. They're too expensive. Make sure you don't tell my husband, or else he'll scold me to death."
"No, I won't do that. Since they're all yours, I wouldn't do such a thing."
Paisley thought, "I should curse you to death! You've never seen the world. For the sake of just a few dollars, you easily fell into your own trap."
