Chapter 468 I Will Talk to Her in Person
Breathing slightly steadier, Chloe looked at her phone. It was a message from Cynthia: [Chloe, are you available? I have something to talk to you about.]
Chloe: [Okay, I'm at home.]
Cynthia: [I'll come over in fifteen minutes.]
Chloe: [Okay.]
After Chloe tidied up the house a bit, Cynthia arrived.
"Chloe, did someone come over?" Cynthia sniffed.
"No," Chloe said, a bit flustered, unsure of what had given her away.
"Why is there a strong scent of perfume? You don't usually wear perfume," Cynthia prodded.
"Oh, I got it at the mall. I just sprayed a bit around the house," Chloe said.
Fortunately, Cynthia didn't dwell on it. She said to Chloe, "Can you ask Donovan about that thing? I want to do it."
"What?" Chloe didn't understand.
"Adopting Jake. I'm divorced and don't plan to remarry, but I wish I had a child. So, I want to adopt Jake. Can you ask Donovan if it's okay?" Cynthia asked eagerly.
Chloe thought, 'Jake? Could it be Janet's son? I haven't heard about this.'
"I don't know about this. He hasn't told me," Chloe said.
"I heard it from a classmate. Donovan asked a married couple in our class who don't have kids if they wanted to adopt Jake, but they didn't want to because Janet is a murderer. Everyone in Maple Valley is talking about it. Do you know about it?" Cynthia asked Chloe again.
"Yeah, I know a bit," Chloe said.
"Please ask him for me," Cynthia asked excitedly.
"Okay."
However, Chloe suddenly remembered Donovan hadn't approved her friend request.
How awkward.
With Cynthia standing beside her, she had to text Donovan: [Cynthia heard about Jake from some classmates. She told me she wants to adopt Jake. What do you think?]
Unexpectedly, Donovan replied immediately: [I'll talk to her in person.]
Chloe looked at the message, feeling a bit uncomfortable. So, he had read all her previous messages but ignored them. This time, because it was about Jake, he responded.
"What did he say?" Cynthia heard the notification and asked Chloe.
"He said he'll talk to you in person."
"Really? That's great. Thank you, Chloe." Cynthia's face lit up, full of anticipation for the upcoming "talk."
"You're welcome," Chloe said.
Then, Cynthia left.
In the following days, Chloe didn't see Cynthia. She continued her routine of attending classes, writing papers, and working on projects.
As for whether Cynthia managed to adopt Jake and how the "talk" with Donovan went, she didn't specifically ask.
Isabel once asked her, "Ms. Baker, do you have someone you like? I heard you two did something that night. No wonder you're not interested in Jeffery."
"What?" Chloe was startled, thinking Isabel must have heard that kiss.
"Not exactly. I just sensed a certain kind of atmosphere," Isabel said longingly.
"Don't talk nonsense," Chloe said.
"Ms. Baker, you're an adult. Why be so shy about it?" Isabel said calmly.
That night, Donovan had such an intense desire.
With his strong hormones and overwhelming passion, there was definitely some noise.
